Hi, can anybody give us some advice/feedback on the above type of cycle carrier. I am looking to purchase one for a Honda CRV 2002-07.

I have come across a carrier called Cm08 Hopkirk Cycle Carrier Ranger 4X4 (Tesco Direct) which is designed to be attached to the spare wheel on the rear door of 4x4.

Never knew this type of carrier was available and just wondered if anybody had any views on it, in particularly has anybody used this type of carrier  on a Honda CRV and whether they have towed a caravan and carried the bikes as well?

Thank you in advance.

Not used one on a Honda but we have one for our Terrano and do use it when towing the caravan with no real problems .

We have to make sure the bikes clear the van at all times and it can be a bit awkward hitching with the bikes in place but as our wheel is quite high it can be done, mind your head on the pedals they hurt.

We also remove the wheel cover as this gives the carrier more grip on the tyre.

We used to use a roof carrier but we use a top box most of the time now and it can be a bit difficult lifting the bikes so high up without damaging the car.

Hi

I just finished fitting one of these to a CRV. I had it a while ago on a Discovery which worked well so gave it a go on the CRV. First I had to remove the spare wheel cover - not all CRV's have them but this one has and off it came - two zips undo from bottom to top. When I tried to fit the rack over the spare wheel the rear windscreen wiper got in the way so I loosened off the bolts holding the spare wheel on enough to ease the bar down for a good fit. After that I tightened the wheel bolts back up and after the wrestling match with the various ties and clips was done. I checked the rear windscreen wiper was working OK and the whole thing is pretty neat. Just make sure everything is done up nice and tight!
