We went to south west Corwall a couple of years ago and visited a tea room on a cliff side facing out to sea - does anyone know of this or a similar site in this area? Ta very much
Ooh, went there a few years ago, to the theatre in the cliffside. The play was 'King Lear', which is one I've always hated, and I've seen it half a dozen times with school trips etc., so I'm also fed up of it, but the production at the Minack was terrific! I really enjoyed it. Must be the sea air...
The minack is awesome - we went last year with a picnic and bottle of wine - the scenery is jaw-dropping, the play was fantastic - Amadeus - the weather was perfect - total perfection!
The Minack has to be one of the best theatre experiences with a difference. Wine, food, theatre, sunset and sea in the background. The atmosphere is stunning.
BUT my bum was numb even with the seat/cushion they provided and I must remember to take a big soft cushion next time.
I am actually not kidding about the cushion. I really, really did find it very uncomfortable after an hour or so sitting on hard rock on just a seat pad - do take the one they give you as they support your back and they do not offer them for no reason, but also take another cushion too. I had to roll up my coat and sit on that in the interval.
My friend kept saying to take a rug or blanket and to wear a lot of warm clothes and I thought she was going on a bit too much but she was right. Even in the summer when we went, as soon as the sun went down it became quite cold as we were sitting on stone facing the sea and up high. We took picnic and wine with paper cups and plastic bottles, loads of room at our feet and there is a lovely outdoor theatre atmosphere so yummy snacks are good.
This theatre is truly a wonderful experience, even better than my imagination. One of the 'Must do's' of Cornwall.
