Fair comment re- East Fleet! .... Although I see you are booked for Lickhill too! This was a pleasant site when we visited it years ago, but I see the reviews are not so good on here as of late!

Must agree that it can be expensive down south. Having lived in Swanage & Poole for a number of years I know what you mean. The locals down there do not understand the importance of good & friendly service considering that their lively-hood depends on it.

Eating out is often expensive for lack-lustre uninspiring food with small portions. This has always been the case.

We saw a pub/hotel that had fantastic views of the Purbeck Coastline that we would have liked to have stayed at, but the reviews are dreadful due to lack of service & care of customers.

I required the use of  x6 public toilets (not all at once!) during my recent week long visit there this year & the state of everyone was appaling!

The National Trust rip you off too! We paid £8 per day for what was often unsupervised fields.

Having said that, I've been to parts of Devon & Somerset & have found it sometimes worse still when it comes to service/care!

Our site this year (Lytchett Manor) was also a disappointment due to the fact that we wanted to go back to it after last years enjoyable time. Unfortunately, we went against our instincts & booked next to the play area!

Having said that, we found that walking around the site & talking to other visitors well away from the play area that they also experienced noisy neighbours! This is due in part to it being the peak of the holiday season. A top site for the area, but at the mercy of whoever decides to book & how they intend to behave.

The areas are beautiful to the point of outstanding & I'm sorry that you didn't like the Dorset area that much, but perhaps due to local knowledge it helped us to make the best of it!

Please try it again, but aim for East Dorset next time!

Dorset is off the menu for next year now, we've already booked 10 days at Ross Park in Devon! Fantastic site, far more in keeping with what we want and expect from a site and its patrons. There's way more to do of the things we enjoy. F'rinstance, Decoy Park, a free country park with a mahoosive play area for little legs, lovely lake to fish (cheap too), top notch facilities and only 60p to park for 9 hours! It's high on our list of revisits for next year.

Lickhill was fantastic, lovely site but we were there mid week, could get a bit full at weekends with probably too few facilities to cope. When we arrived at East Fleet Mrs CJ said "we should have stayed at Lickhill"!

Coming soon to a campsite near you, Jake, Mrs Jake, Little legs, Bosdog the Doodle and Olly the Cavachon.

2014:

August: Scarborough, High Yedmandale. Not tenting though, using one of their lovely holiday homes!

Hi everyone, just read your posts, some great stuff here We are planning a trip next year to Devon, with an 18 month old toddler. We have one of those back packs to put her in, so am looking for some really interesting walks, rivers/forests/beachs etc. We will be staying in the Woolacombe Bay area.

Thanks very much

It's the price of parking down here that gets me. In Devon it is always at least £1 an hour and in some places there is a minimum parking time of 4 hours whether you want it or not. We can pay up to £10 a day to park in 2 or 3 different places. Must get organised and get a week long ticket next time for Torbay, covers loads of car parks.

If you are the lady with her young son, then yes!

Nice to have met you. Hope the holiday went well!

Ours was okay apart from being next to the play area which unfortunately spoilt that aspect of the holiday!

Regards
