Wild swimming is when you go down to the deeper but safe bits of the local river, take some or all of your clothes off and dive in, yup? Or the local lake?
Well, unless you don't have rivers where you live, I bet my socks there will be several places very close to you. Thing is we don't encourage kids to shove off and play with their mates for the day out of sight so the local places that the feral kids used to swim at will have fallen off the radar. Ask around the older local population of 50-60+, especially men, and I bet they'll know.
As to clothes on or off, basically, the more remote the venue is then the less folk will care. It's not like you can be suspected of any malicious flashing intent if you're swimming naked in a river twenty miles from any town or village and only likely to meet up with the odd walker, who's probably seen it all before anyway. In town though, best to wear something.

Some good ideas there, thanks. Will maybe start with a wet suit and work downwards
