Hi. I am looking for a small tent to take when I go off Hillwalking with my Dad. He has a small tent himself and I want one that'll suit just me but if needs be two persons. I'd like it to be sturdy in all weather but most of all cheap to buy!! I found a few budget ones but that looked up to the challenge and narrowed it down to a few and thought I'd settled on the Vango Sigma 200 but wasn't sure how easy it would be to erect alone. Does anyone have one they can give me feedback on or any suggestions for an alternative?

Good luck.

The sigma is easy to pitch single handed. I have the 300 plus and manage it by myself.

The Sigma 200 is quite heavy at 4kg, if you are carrying it by yourself then something around the 2kg mark would be much better.

Cheap is relative, if you want a cheap quality tent that ticks your boxes then you'll be talking £70 to £120 for a good range of tents. That's a lot more than the Sigma costs but a lot less than some other quality brands.

Something like this would be ideal for you.

My son has a 2 berth Vango Tempest 200. He can pitch it alone in under 10 minutes and the weight comes in at just over 2.5kgs so isnt heavy for long distance walking. I think it cost in the region of £80 but is well worth the money.

I have a Coleman  Avior 2 man tent  2.45Kgs..will compress a bit too. I do use V pegs tho for added stability, not all pegs that come with tents are ideal.  two entrances.. Google it to take a look...Good HH at 4000 and 5000 respectively.

Aztec Cascada 2 berth, stands up to Cornish Monsoons and gales, lifetime guarantee on poles too, 4.5kg weight, pitches very easily. Got one for sale actually... (bought for camping with niece, did not want her in our tent, now got caravan as mother's spine does not allow airbed use anymore, sigh)!

I wouldnt hike wild camp with more than 2.5Kgs tent weight myself..a good rucksack is gonna weigh that much too...Essential to keep weight down otherwise one would be too uncomfortable.

Hi I bought the Vango Alpha 250 Recently .

From Camperland Northenden Manchester . .Price £29:99. A bargain 2 man tent . Quite spacious And easy to for one person to put up . It Is 3.6 Kg.   10 + to erect .  And I can recommend It .

I looked at the Vango  Alpha 200 .at £19:99 .  On show and It looked to small even for one person . Weight v.g . 2.75 Kg.  Also to narrow . .

I had also Decided against the Sigma's as they where 4 Kg. I think to heavy .

Have been using a Hilleberg Nallo2 GT (2.5kg) for the last 5 years, great tent, but a little pricey these days, but it has never let me down whatever the weather has been, my first backpacking tent was a Terra Nova LaserLite, still have that for occational use, uber lightweight and it's modern day incarnation comes in at 500gms!!, and features in the Guiness book of records as the worlds lightest tent, although my LaserLite model is a portly 1kg lol.
