Having spent more time than enough lost here there and everywhere I've decided to get the GPS out and try and to work it out yet again  First off I can't find anywhere in the instructions on how to change the date and time, so as usual i'm off to a good start!

The main problem is, in the instructions it tells you how to get to the map page, but the picture on the instructions clearly shows a map, my map reading skills leave a lot to be desired but its definetly a map, yet on my hand set all I get are a couple of geocache settings, little treasure chest things, and nothing else, not a single road, river or anything.

Where am I going wrong here? I could manage a map, but a screen with a north arrow and a couple of treasure chests is going to get me seriously lost i think

You don't normally have to set the date and time on a GPS unit, although you may set an offset from UTC (which for all practical purposes is the same as GMT). It should set the correct date and time when it gets a GPS lock.

Your handheld GPS may or may not have any maps loaded. As LlaniDavis says, you need to say what GPS unit you have.

I found the Garmin not particularly user-friendly, but as Nickgill says RTFM and you should be fine!
