We have only tried it the once and that was back in the year it first opened. Then it started at the Botanic Gardens in Glasgow. We stayed the first night at Rowerdennan Youth Hostel.

The next night we camped north of the Inversnaid Hotel but, that night we were washed clean out of the tent by torrential rain and we turned back then and caught the ferry across the loch and hitched a lift home from there.

I do remember that at the time, the bit between Rowardennan and Inversnaid was very difficult as you were walking on the exposed roots of the trees and this was very sore on the ankles.

However, all this was over 30 years ago and while Rowerdennan Hostel and the Inversnaid Hotel are still there, there are probably better footpaths by now and hopefully they have sablized the "Bonny Banks" as well and campers no longer face being washed into the loch every time it rains!

I've done it 2 times, once in the summer, once in the winter. Took me 5 days in winter with a full pack. You can stay at hotels/hostels along the way, even dine in a restaurant. But then who ever went outdoors to be pampered, right? You can bivy bag it, and although in winter it sounds depressing it takes your pack weight down as apposed to a tent. Unless your carrying the 1kg tent. Make sure you pack right and wear propper gear, especially in winter. Have a good one.
