I do apologise I got your name wrong!! Yes it's very hilly lol, whichever way I go I have hills which is hard work but great for training. I'm running the Coniston 14 which is 13.8 miles around Lake Coniston...absolutely stunning!! I have also just received my place in the Coniston to Barrow which is 23 miles in May...and no I don't intend to run it all...just as much as I can lol. It's part of the Keswick to Barrow which is a 40 mile walk/run that cuts right down through the Lakes...all for charity!! I am running for a charity...Alices Escapes. This is an charity set up by an amazing and unfortunately terminally girl called Alice Pyne and her family, there are 112 of us taking part in May as part of Team Alice...can't wait. Good luck to everyone and enjoy your running!!
I took up running again last year following a 20+ year break, as I'd had problems with my ankles - so far so good, but I'm doing a lot less than I used to, and my main sporting activity is swimming, particularly open-water.
Have entered a 10k run (did one last year), and thinking of trying a half-marathon, but if I have knee or ankle problems again will knock it on the head and stick to swimming. I do enjoy it, though!
I'm taking glucosamine supplements for my joints - does anyone else use this?

Thought I was going to need to a few years back but a physio told me to make sure I do all the right stretches and to make sure my knees weren't collapsing inwards as I run.
So make sure you stretch first thing in morning and last thing at night and before and after every run. Then you won't need any tablets or other supplements - in my experience.

Well took a bit of a setback recently was doing 8 milers ok .
Unfortunately my knackered knee started to play up . Very sore after runs
Worse still I somehow managed to twist and pull my back .
Decided to rest and use massager on my back . + volterol rubbing cream . After a week off .And rested . Went out yesterday In very cold weather with lovely Sunshine and blue skys . Did all my stretching and used Radium B muscle rub on legs . This seemed to do the trick . had a lovely enjoyable jog over 5 miles . No bad reaction or adverse affects from the knee or back .
So I,m back on track ,going for a 10K tomorrow .
P.S . I 've started to take Omega 3 Glucosesamine &Cod liver oil supplements . To help to offset problems .
I have managed to do 9 , 10 11 , and 12 milers . Most of my long distance and stamina runs are finished . Now tapering off this week . Just doing 10ks . Trying to run a bit faster. Starting to hydrate/Carbo up , and get myself , in good shape for this Sundays 25th March .
Wilmslow Half marathon . Over five thousand entrants ,running around the country lanes of Cheshire . I will be running on behalf of Macmillan Cancer support.
So there will be lots of people cheering us on . I just hope this Spring like weather carrys on . And everybody enjoys the day . And raise lots of money for worthy and just causes .
good luck for sunday it is the thirsk 10 in this part of the world you should be ok on the day don't get carried away when the big boys take off at the start stick to your own pace and all will be well hope thetshirt is a good one let's know how you get on the weather should be good
For all you tips and encouragment . The shirts are brilliant Usually Cool max Asics for what you get In the goody bag . And the atmosphere is fantastic .
well done zigzag (hope you were not running in a zigzag fashion towards the end of the run!) well then - the time?? did you do what you hoped for?
don't give up the running - now you have come so far, keep ticking over so that you do not lose the benefit. The amount of cycling and walking you do will make it easy. It is a really good feeling to be able to run/jog/walk quickly/leap up those stairs and not feel out of breath. As Steve Winwood in The Spencer Davis Group sang -Keep on Running' (when I get a bit tired on the road, I usually start singing this to myself - the beat is about right and the legs follow the beat) ok, sound a bit mad, but who cares, I can still run and not be out of breath
Thanks again . Idpdmp. I cant zigzag any more , due to a knackered knee which has arthritis. It took me over 3 hours plus , to finish . I was not happy with the time . Just run out of steam after 10 miles . I have been told If I carry on running I will cause permenant damage to the knee . As I'm running with a limp now .
My favourite running tune Is an old Elvis song called Mystery Train , that gave my age away !!!!!!!!!!!!!!.
And I also love "Keep on Running " . However I,ve got to train now for a very very long charity walk . Backpacking ,Hiking and camping out . Hoping to start on 16th April , take a week or so to complete .
Thats why I 'm saving my knackered knee and pampering It by wearing a strong knee support . After that I'm doing some long distance easy cycles to North Wales .Its all for Charity . Macmillan Cancer Support . As for running .
I started running at age 43 - had never done anything active in my life! I started by running a minute and walking a minute - and that minute of running almost killed me! Gradually I built up to 2 minutes, then 3....
Now I can run for almost an hour!!
I have run a 5K and have ambitions to try a 10K.
Congratulations on the half marathon. That is inspiring!!!
well done to the two of you it is not about times, nor how far it is about keeping going and keeping the ticker ticking over while having a bit of fun I am in'in a one' at the moment just got over a dicky back and so I stopped running did a couple of miles today and no ill effects so the 'in a one' looks as though it is on its way out must go, got the ironing to do!!
