hi filks ive just bought an inflatable kayak and i mm asking does anyone one on which rivers ..canals i can kayak on legally or how to obtain a waterways licence ..thanks..stewey
No worries, we kayak but down in the South West I am afraid. Be very careful with an inflatable, don't go on open seas in it and be very wary of windy days. We have various kayaks and believe me the inflatable is very susceptible to winds and very hard to paddle back in sometimes! It soon gets very tiring.
hi snowy its my first time and i plan to use it more on canals and lakes as opposed to seaand fast flowing waters . and as its my first kayak its basic and cheap as a run up to something better if i like it . its a 2 manner and i intend using it when we go camping but as yet i need an inflatable life jacket etc..and need a licence but unsure as what steps to take next im confused just yet...cheers..stewey
Don't know about a licence but the Lancaster Canal would be a good one for kayaking. Some lovely scenery, especially up round Garstang, and best of all no locks. I've stayed at Bridge House Marina which is right on the canal and I've seen many kayakers going past.

Join BCU you get a sticker for your boat enabling access to most canals and rivers. Some places you can just use anyway. Google song of the paddle as well.
The BCU as Snowy says is the best bet they also now do a wallet card rather than boat sticker meaning if you have several different Canoe/Kayaks its you and not just one boat that's covered.
I was advised by several people that it was better to have a buoyancy aid type life jacket rather than an inflatable one, not sure why but its cheaper and less heavy so went for that
