Helo SarahK7. I have done the hike/walk ,from Fairholmes Visitors Centre. Crossed under the Derwent dam via the road uphill onto the otherside to track /trail near Jubliee Cottages , headed North with the reservoir on the left . Stunning scenery all round . Headed upto Howden dam and reservoir . And before Cranberry bed turned East across the packhorse bridge to Slippery stones, this takes you onto a track through the woods running with the river Derwent going South then cross a ford to arrive at a tarmac road ,passing plantations woods following the road all the way as it meanders around the reservoir passing Derwent Valley you arrive back at the start point at the carpark .
You could access the walk from the furtest northerly point past Ronksley Plantation At the top end of the Tarmac road . As a bus goes there .
The nearest Campsite I know is Hardhurst Farm . North of Brough off the A6187. Near the Travellers rest pub , and on the O/S map shows a campsite on Station rd Bamford also . And the buses go through there . Its about 10k to 12K walk to Fairholmes.
