I off to Beamish museum in a fortnight, I've got a 25% discount for buying tickets on the gate but been told the queue can get quite long. Has anyone been, is the queue worth the discount or should I just pay full price & avoid the queue.
It was a couple of years ago but we experienced long queues at the ticket office of about half an hour wait. If we were to go again I would buy online. Didn't know about the discount buying at the entrance.
You queue whilst the family enjoy coffee in the adjoining cafe...simples
------------- If you're not on a fell your wasting your feet and for 2014 it's.......Feb Castleton Mar North Yors Moors; Apr Sutton on Sea; May Thirsk; Jun Clapham/Riverside (Lakes); July Wharfedale; August Crakehall; Sept Knaresborough; Oct Wirral Park/Clitheroe
I visited on the 2nd Sept & decided to buy on the door, we arrived at 9.50am 1omins before it opens & where first in the queue. I therefore used my discount so got a years pass for £13.12 & only had to wait 10mins.
When we visited a couple of years ago, it wasnt the entrance and ticket office that took the time, but the queue for the tram into the town itself and the mining village.
I would love to go again sometime, that and the National Rail Museum are two of my favourites, closely followed by the Castle Museum in York, which is full of social history from Victorian times.
