Had the same quandary when I upgraded my old Etrex basic model to a mapping version. You can pay a couple of hundred for a mapping set or,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, you can do what most of us Garmin owners have done and use 'Talky Toaster' maps. They are open source maps and are free if you've got the wherewithal to put them on a card or you can buy a preloaded sd card for £23. These Maps are as good as if not better than OS Maps. In fact they are being used by Rescue services in Scotland and other places. Go for the British Isles +contours OS 1:50 Look and feel. All you'll ever need.
