Bakewell pudding is entirely different to the Tart of the same name both of which are sold locally. The Tart is what most people are familiar with, but the pudding is much sweeter, normally has a puff pastry base, and is topped with the secret recipe topping onto of lots of Jam, nothing like anything the likes of Mr Kippling and co would make!
If you like walking and cycling, try the High peak Trail, which runs for over 20 miles from Cromford, near Matlock Bath, and continues up via along a disused railway track to about 3 miles south of Buxton, taking in some pretty villages and spectacular scenery along the way, including Carsington water, with its many attractions and watersports facilities, visitor centre, and free childrens playpark and picnic area.
Buxton itself is a lovely little town with most popular high street stores in its man street and small indoor shopping mall, it also has a Morrisons supermarket and an Aldi within a mile of the town centre.
Chatsworth house and farm shop, one of the finest farm shops in the Uk, is also worth a visit, along with its gardens and farmyard which is very popular with children and adults alike. The farm shop sells fine quality produce, fresh fish and meat, home made sausages, burgers, and cured bacon, and a deli counter that will leave you drooling!
