and Darlington.
We are camping at Whitby and its a 3 hour journey, so we want to break it up and stretch our legs and give the dog a walk!!
We want somewhere between Kirkby Stephen and Darlington as we reckon this is midway.
Has anyone got any recommendations.....thank you in advance

If it's not too far out of your way, I'd stop off at Richmond. There is a good walk along the river (at the bottom of the castle) and into some woods for the dog and there are plenty of places to get something to eat/drink. Or I'd stop at Barnard Castle, I think you can walk along the river but it's been a couple of years since I was there.

Thanks for the replies..Barnard castle sounds great.
we've never been to Whitby before, but its been on my wish list.
We only live 30 mins from Lake Windermere, so are spoilt really and never need to venture very far for great camping, and we usually camping near Elterwater.
thanks again

Hi, I live in Darlington and would have to say that both Richmond and Barnard Castle are really nice. My preference is Richmond but both have castles and are on the river.
Both are easily accessed from the A66 but the A67 between Barnard Castle and Darlington is currently closed with a diversion in place.
If you go to Richmond have a walk to the old railway station and try the Archer's ice cream.
