Any keen campers that are also festival goers?

I started a blog a while ago that was initially camping related but is now festivals and camping.

I would love to go to some festivals but even the smaller local ones are getting more and more expensive, in some cases you could get a couple of weeks camping for the cost of one festival! Can you recommend and cheapy ones?

I agree many festivals are pricey although when you work out what you get for the money they are usually great value. It depends if they are bands you really want to see I guess. Lots of sites now run the camping from weds or thurs until Monday morning so it's a few days too.

I use efestivals website to find cheap local festivals, last year I did three days with subsidised beer tent and music for £20

And don't forget that there are lots of other festivals too, not just music, comedy, food....

Hi there, yep, I go to lots of festivals, either as a ticket holder or volunteer. I saw your blog's about Camp B - have been a few times but not since 2012. Some fab food places there, a gorgeous setting and amazing lst night fireworks with the music & projections on the castle! Do you do any others?

i have really been wanting to attend a family friendly festival` but they do all seam extremely expensive

Some are - but then when you add up the cost of going to see say 3 of each days bands, then they start to look more reasonable. Or, there are small inexpensive festivals that won't have any bands you know but still have a great atmosphere. Many are free for under 5s, and token cost/half price for under 12s/16s.

Maybe one of us could suggest something if you give us an idea of the price range you'd consider, which end of the country & what sort of things/music you like?

Hi,
I'm off to Festival Underneath the Stars (in a caravan) in Barnsley on Friday. Headline is Kate Rusby and Richard Thompson. It wasn't particularly cheap but were looking forward to it. It's been a long time since I've been to a festival. Last time was in my youth, I'm now very nearly 60. My wife has never been to a festival.

We're considering making a festival an annual event from now on.

I'm 64 (next week)and manage to get to about 7 or 8 festivals a year. Most are smaller, local festivals but a couple are quite big (15,000ish attendees). The camper van does make things easier!

I've been going to festivals since 1969 and, apart from a break in the 1980s when we lived abroad and then had jobs where weekends off were a no no (running pubs) I've been going to festivals ever since.

If you get the opportunity give festivals in Europe a go (though if you are under 30 you might like to give the 'dance and trace' ones a miss). They are generally cheaper than those here in the UK and the weather is often better. They are often town based and can add something different to your holiday. Festival Interceltique in Lorient, France and Pennabilly Buskers Festival in Italy are both recommended.

I've done a few festivals this year. Along with some scooter rallies, where you get good music and beer, and no trouble, always family freindly, some of these cost £5 per night!!

going to Sunshine Festival in Upton in August bank holiday and this was only £60 for four days,lots of retro bands there as well as tribute tent. Lots for the kids to do aswell. Looking forward to it
