If you like walking and views, you can't beat a trip to the Roches on main road between leek and buxton - market day wednesday in leek too. Or head down whilst that way to Tittesworth reservoir, nice little cafe too.

Crich Tramway Museum is dog friendly indoors and out and they can go on the trams. It's not far south of Matlock and a good wet weather option.

Monsal head view point and walking through the trail tunnels is my favourite.
You could also drive over the Cat and Fiddle road. (pub and tea rooms on top) to Macclesfield forest. If you walk up Shutlinsloe the views are fantastic

There is a cracking little zoo in Derbyshire. Can't remember what it's called yet but will ask the wife when she gets up.

Sorry - it's a bit too far for you (58 miles) - It was Twycross Zoo. We were in Derbyshire when we visited but quite a bit further south.

Zoos a bit of a no no for us as we'll have Bailey with us but thanks anyway

I don't know if you are still reading this thread but Google Lumsdale. We went on Saturday and its beautiful (in the sunshine anyway) Ruined mills and greenery and spectacular waterfalls. Plenty of photographic opportunities. It's not far out of Matlock we walked from Tansley there are walking directions on the internet.

Hi Everyone
Well, we're having a lovely time here in the Peak District, what a beautiful area and one I can see us coming back to on a regular basis. The site is lovely and we have visited many of the suggested places. Buxton itself is beautiful, we particularly like the Pavillion Gardens where Bailey has been able to have a nice swim in the river. Castleton, as we already knew is lovely, got there early this morning to get parked but had no problem, lovely bacon sandwich from the bakers and again, Bailey able to have a paddle in the stream.
Sat in the tent on site now and it's pouring down, do we care? No not really as we'd enjoyed the best part of the day before we came back! There's a lovely dog friendly pub in Castleton so thinking of going back there tomorrow for tea.
Bakewell is a stunning place, lovely riverside walk, great market on a Monday - oh and Bailey managed a paddle, do you see a pattern emerging here?!!
Clover Fields is a beautiful site with lovely owners who make you very welcome. There's a lovely café on site that does a delivery service with whatever is available in the café brought to your tent/caravan on proper plates, we had chicken tikka on the night of our arrival and it was spot on.
Oh and one last point, I think adult only sites are the way forward for us. Can't believe how peaceful it is here. Wake in a morning and all you can here is the birds singing, bliss. Anyone who knows me knows how much I love fforest fields, but I think we've found an equally nice site here and closer to home, which is good for me as the only driver!
