For anyone camping near the Clyde coast, I recommend trying the Ayrshire Coastal Path. The path is recognised as one of Scotland's "Great Trails", and connects to the Mull of Galloway Trail and the West Highland Way in easy segments. Its website is kept up to date at <www.ayrshirecoastalpath.org> - the News Page currently notes that Mr Trump's changes to the golf course at Turnberry have necessitated a temporary detour. There is also an excellent guidebook that fits into a pocket, all proceeds are donated to charity. The path is not all gravel "footpath" as some people may expect, it's more of a "route" created as a result of Rotary volunteers linking beaches (at low tide), walkable shores, farm tracks, estate paths (at Culzean), town promenades, and old railway track, putting up stiles over fences with landowners' agreement and clearing a route through scrub. It's a remarkable achievement, and I've enjoyed walking many sections of it. I commend it to UKCS members.

Great - thanks, Fiona W. We're heading that way later this month and are always on the lookout for walks for the dogs.
Will check out the website.

There are also plenty of "Paths for All" networks in Ayrshire - from memory, a network of half a dozen paths each centred on a town - Girvan, Barr, Dailly, Straiton, Auchincruive (outside Ayr). There are leaflets for each town network, they have some signs but not every 100 yards. And there are plenty of Forestry Commission paths too, in the hills of the Galloway Forest Park which nudges into the south end of Ayrshire. Hope you enjoy your trip to this part of the world.

Thanks, Fiona W. We're not that far away anyway, and we've spent years visiting the Galloway Forest / South West in general and, though we love it, we thought it would be good to venture somewhere else.
We're also hoping to try to fit in a day trip to Arran.
Thanks again!
