I'm always searching for a site relatively close to a lake or deep river suitable for my Border Collie, she's only 6 and has advanced arthritis in both her front wrists and toes. We can't walk her on concrete so always take her on grass, woodland and sand but the best thing for her is swimming. IS ANYONE ABLE TO RECOMMEND A SUITABLE PLACE IN UK OR FRANCE. Here's hoping!!
We now have to avoid such swimming places as the (rescue) cocker spaniel swims after ducks & swans, which is worrying when she heads out to sea, barking. Ponds or lochs right beside sites at Belhaven (near Dunbar), Kirk Loch (Dumfriesshire), Loch Ken (Galloway), and too many sites to mention right by the sea - beautiful beaches of soft sand on east, north & west coast of Scotland - must be bliss for sore toes. But probably too far from Derbyshire.
You'll probably get loads of responses if you post your query on the Sites forum though.
Thanks for the very useful info. Were off to Scotland, Loch Lomand very soon so will look up the places you advise. Great idea I'll place my post on the sites forum.
The CCC site at Bowness is a short walk from the banks of Lake Windermere with direct access from the site along a public footpath. There is a short stretch of proper path but you can soon get onto the grassy lakeside.
Just be careful not to let your dog swim into the sea on an ebbing tide when the currents can be very strong and easily wash your pet out to sea.
We had a narrow escape a few years ago with our elderly Boxer on the Scarborough north bay. We never dreamed that she would try and swim out to chase a Jet ski, but she did, and then wasnt strong enough to swim against the tide to get back to shore. Luckily the Jet ski man was a dog lover, and turned his machine to help her back to safety. It shook her up badly and made her sick from the amount of salt water she had swallowed, but she did survive and we learned never to let her run free on a beach ever again.

I have a labrador which actually explains it all. I remember taking her to the beach once. She is usually not that wild at home but when I left her out open in the beach she went completely crazy. It was a fun day for both of us- me trying to catch her and she running away from me...
If you come to Mull, you could try Fidden, right on the coast and lovely sand.
dexters, I had a lab and it was impossible to keep him out of water, though he eventually did learn that it wasn't advisable to swim in streams fed by snow melt! Unfortunately, his favourite was the very muddy Walton backwaters, not great for a yellow lab!
