I went for a lovely walk today
In Brilliant Autumn Sunshine
To My Favourite place Styal Village
I Call It England Personified
A beautiful Tranquil Place .
Especially when the Sun Is out with a Blue Sky .
Walked over Fields tracks and trails
Around Styal country park and around the meandering River Bollin
Flowing fast after all the rain we had
Then Along a track besided Runway 2 of
Manchester Airport
Where all the Aircraft enthusiast Spotters go Then out onto the country lanes and home
A nice ramble in the Beautiful Cheshire Countryside

Yes Mrs Bonce .
It's a beautiful place
As I only live just over a mile from Styal Village
As I walk around most days ,It takes you back in time two three hundred years
Through,"The Past Darkly "
So much to see and take in
everything is So.
   'Olde Worlde'
Cobbled streets Thatched cottages with the Tiny Methodist Chapel And Norcliffe Chapel and School, nearby the
    Old Shoppe's
With basic groceries on display from days gone by .
Near the village green
The Old Saxon cross .
Across paths and fields with amazing views to the Ridge of hill towards Lyme Park and the long Gritstone trail

I lived in Denton (outside Manchester) for a while in the mid 70s. It’s good to have countryside like Styal so close to the city. I think Quarry Bank Mill (National Trust) is nearby? I remember finding that very interesting.

Hello Fiona W
I know Denton in Tameside well
Crown Point ,Ashton road and all the shops .
As I lived up in Hills at Gamesley near Glossop .
Anyway .
Quarry Bank Mill is a very Popular place to visit .
It Is part of my walks along the River Bollin Valley pathways .
The Mill is fed from the River and the Weir
And powers up all the Machinery .
The Mill and Shops ,cafe and House and Terraced Gardens are all the attractions
Owned by the National Trust
It's all part of the Trail for visitors to wander round so much to see and do
This area is In the Deep Bollin
Valley
From the Village
It's a Steep Decent down to the Mill
And cobbled yard
Which would have been the stables
hundreds of years ago .
During the Autumnal weather now
From a vantage point
Looking Down to this area
A Damp Swirling grey Mist Hangs eerily over the Building enshrouded
Like Fog .
But When the Sun comes out on Clear sunny days
It's very Picturesque .
A Lovely Place to visit

A story about the Mill Workers of
Quarry Bank Mill Styal in 1800
A lot of the Orphans and Unwanted Children working at the Mill
Working long hours
They Decided to Run away one day
They Absconded all the way to London
But where caught by the Peelers (Police )
They where sent back
And for Punishment
Put in a locked Dark room
Also had to make up the Daily
lost hours as well
As they worked 12 hours a day .
They where housed In the Apprentice house .
Which had very basic facilities
The Bedrooms where like Dormitorys
Children Slept in Large rectangular Boxes with hay for Bedding
wooden floors , Oil lamps for lighting and open fires .
Every Early morning Given Porridge and Bread ,staple diet for breakfast
Then make their way downhill to the Mill
for a hard long Days work
In the very Dangerous and very noisy Loom and Yarn rooms

doing menial tasks
As I have passed the Apprentice house at Dusk and late evening
On training Runs
I've slowed down and walked past
Always got an eerie chilling feeling
Possibly for the lost souls of those poor children

Some places do have an atmosphere, I agree. Nowhere near Styal, so I apologise, but Culloden Battlefield is such a place. First visit aged 11 in the 60s with my father (Scottish regiment), he told the history from a factual military viewpoint. Something there still moves me to tears as an adult though, always does.
So I’m sure you have a wee thought for the Styal children as you run by.

There are Places that have Atmospheric feel to them
I believe Culloden is Hallowed ground .
And has an eerie mist enshrouding the Battlefield on certain days .

My kids when little listened to the Story , of Styal Quarry Bank Mill
Children
Whilst on a visit to The Apprentice house.
They all got very emotional
And Cried
After hearing about the punishment
given out to the Runaways ......
I felt very sad myself and shed a tear also.......
