We stayed in Melton Mowbray last year but it wasn’t a CL or CS site which I know is your preference. We stayed at Eye Kettleby Lakes. When we were in the area we had a couple of great days out and really enjoyed Belvoir Castle which is about 13 miles north of Melton Mowbray. It is part of the ‘Historic Houses’ group and as we had bought membership, it didn’t cost anything to get in. We also visited Burghley House which was about 20 miles south east of Melton Mowbray and it was spectacular as well and also part of ‘Historic Houses’. Visiting those two properties alone almost covered the cost of annual membership.
If you like pork pies my husband thought ‘Ye Olde Pork Pie Shoppe’ in Melton Mowbray had the best pork pies he had ever tasted.

I hadn't heard of rocks by rail until this post, so I took a look at their website. Interesting! I'll probably have to visit that myself once the weather warms up a bit. A couple of those diesel loco types that they have I have driven on the heritage railway I volunteer on.
