Hello, just registered on here, thank you. I’m looking to buy a static for the first time, I’ve found two plots for sale mid wales. Now looking on line at statics but really just don’t know what you get for say 10-15k or 20-25k. Basically what’s the least you can spend for a good quality and decent static. Any advice most welcome.

If you own your own plot of land to put it on (i.e. not a commercial caravan site) and you have permission to site a static on it, you have virtually everything in your favour to get some real bargains. Very few (if any) commercial sites in Britain will take any static that they haven't sold, and a lot of those sites have an age limit, quite often 10 years. Consequently there are a lot of static owners with a big problem. Their static is approaching 10 years old and they have to remove it from the site even though it is immaculate. No other site will touch it, they are all in league with one another, so their only option is to scrap it or sell it to someone who has their own plot of land on which to put it. This often means someone who wants to put it in their garden as temporary accommodation while they do up an old house, or a company who wants a site office. Consequently even some really good ones sell for £hundreds, as they are virtually worthless without a site.

Good luck, you could get a real bargain, but before you do anything check that you can get permission to site a static on any piece of land you are looking to buy. Apparently it isn't easy to obtain, although I must admit I have never tried personally.

As to what you can get for your money, I was watching on ebay once and I saw what looked like a really nice static go for less than £150. Yes I do mean £150, absolute peanuts! Such is the difficulty in getting rid of an unsited static. Often the transport costs alone of removing them are far more than they are saleable for.

Best Regards,
Colin

Bear in mind that many sites with statics will request that a static is removed from the site if over a certain age therefore you may buy one for £5000 only to be told that it needs to be moved off the site before it reaches the age of 10 years. This is one of the reasons why some statics are so cheap! Buyer beware!
Why not buy a large twin axle caravan and place it on a seasonal site. A lot cheaper and if you. do not like the site after a couple of years, move the caravan to another site.

when you say two plots for sale .... is that an outright purchase of the 'plot' or a lease, just be careful as others have pointed out to make sure you know exactly what you are paying for, including restrictions, limits etc

we picked up a brilliant 2 year old one from a site operator, they are sometimes happy to sell them off to replenish their hire stock or if theyve taken it part ex from someone upgrading on site

as an example a site owner will prob pay at 20k for brand new van, sell it to someone for 55k then take it pack as part ex after a couple of years and give them 25k part ex against a new van at 60k so theyve already made the profit of 30k on the first deal plus 5k on the second deal - they then sell the van off site (if someone has a place for it to go) for 15k and have enough profit off both deals to buy a new van 'for free' - which they can then sell for another 60k ....

they also sell off ex rental vans as they have had their money out of them as rentals and by selling it at not a lot less than they paid, they get a brand new van for next to nothing as effectively you are buying it for them and i am sure there is some sort of write off against tax to provide even more profit ....

everyone thinks site fees in the UK are high but the big money is in selling vans, which is why most sites have an 'age of van' rule.

so my suggestion is that if you def have somewhere to site a van, it wont hurt asking at any major campsites if they have any nearly new vans for sale off site.

PS, to give you an idea of pricing we got a 2 year old van shipped to France for at 16k 4 years ago
