This is a question that crops up regularly, and there are many posts on it that all say pretty much the same. Very, very few sites anywhere in Britain will site a static that they haven't sold. Those that do are probably not the best sites anyway. Most sites also have an age limit which is often 10 years, after which time it must be removed from the site. This applies even with statics they have sold.

I think you will have great difficulty finding anywhere in Britain that would even consider a static that was nearly 8 years old for that very reason. You would have to remove it again in 2 years. Sorry to sound so negative, but that's just how things are in rip-off Britain. You would have much better luck re-siting it in France, or so I'm told. Is that something you would consider?

Best Regards,
Colin

18 years old Colin not 8, and I don’t recall anyone coming back to say they have found anywhere in the last few years, there was someone who said they heard of somewhere but it would cost thousands, again though it was never confirmed. There’s a place in Essex that actually gives them away!

A senior moment there Grandad Kenny. Time goes quicker when you get older! Of course it is 18 years not 8.

Never heard of anywhere that would take one 8 years old never mind 18!

No I haven’t either. I stayed on a site near Santander and there were statics on there that were over 40 years old.
Mister B, I can’t remember but it was in a post to a previous question about a ten year old static that someone had posted on here.

MisterB1959
Didn't you give some info about relocating a static to France.
I am trying to relocate my static abroad and was wondering if you have any info about doing this, my caravan is 20 years old and at the moment is on a park in prestatyn. Brian

yes, we've done it twice now. as it would be in the UK, find a site that will accept it. does it have a pitched or flat roof? it will be easier if it has a pitched roof. choose an area and then look for sites. where are you looking?

It has a round roof and we were looking at caravans in the sun but seemed only to be able to put us in a park by setubal that didn't look up to much and the relocation costs was around £14000. So we were thinking of France or Spain.

you will usually have to pay a 'gate fee' to site your van, but that might also include installation. Installation though can be full connection to the services or just levelling up on concrete blocks, so you need to make sure what you are getting.

i would allow £3.5k for transport from Uk to France (anything up to 1000 miles one way) and 2k for a gate fee including full installation. which is a 'tad' less than the 12k suggested by caravans in the sun !

depending on the condition of your van it might be worth just picking up a second hand one off site in france in the area you want to go to, but you will still pay a gate fee of course. take a look on the french site leboncoin.fr -

for your info we paid around 12k for our first van ( a 2001 cosalt rimini) inc transport about 13 years ago and sold it for around 18k 4 years ago, we had added decking, shed (utility room/kitchen) we then bought a van from Southport which was a couple of years old, which cost 16k inc shipping, which now we have added decking and a shed (utility/kitchen) would sell for around 23k

i am assuming your current site has an age clause, so make sure the french site doesnt (most smaller, family run sites dont) stay away from large sites such as Haven - though i doubt they would let you on anyway lol. there are still some british ran, smaller sites that would allow bring ons, but you need to find them. i suspect caravans in the sun have done their homework and have a list of such sites.

where in france have you been looking? we are on the vendee about 20 mins from the beaches. because there are so many camp sites in this area, there is likely to be sites that allow bring ons, but you might have to do some leg work ....i have also seen pitches being offered around brittany on another french web site vivastreet.fr look for 'emplacement' - which is a 'pitch' for a static.

as for fees, we pay around 2400 euros, which seems to be the norm for the area, plus gas and electricity

let me know if you need any more info/help

ive just had a quick look on line for mobil homes, there are some very well priced (as there always are this time of year) already sited. ie one on vivastreet at Talmont St Hillaire for 6500 euros? so it might be a better option to get one already sited?

its a french van, but we prefer uk vans as they tend to have a lot more comfort !!

if you are still interested email me and i will see if i can help. the site we are on is (was last year) still accepting bring ons, but older vans can only go in certain areas as they try to keep uniformity. PS most of the 7 british families are in that area of the site !!
