Hi,
Does anyone know of any camp sites that will offer pitches for static caravans older than 15 years , but in good condition.
Mine is nearing the 15 years and we will have to give up our plot. We would like to see if we could find another site who will accommodate an older van.

Very few if any sites anywhere in Britain will take statics that they haven't sold. Especially one 15 years old, as many sites have a 10 year age limit even for ones they have sold. Sadly condition seems to be completely irrelevant.

Sorry to sound so negative, but this question has come up so many times before. We always ask people in this position to come back and let us know if they find somewhere, as there are loads of people who would love that information. So far nobody has, so they are either keeping it to themselves or they haven't found anywhere.

On a more positive note, apparently many sites in France are not so restrictive, and will willingly accept statics from outside.

Best Regards,
Colin

if the van has a double pitch roof then you will prob find somewhere in France to resite it, cost around 6k inc transport. it will then be actually worth something !

a 1990's van sold on the site we are on two years ago for around 9k, it was 28 x 10, curved roof, single glazed etc. not the prettiest of vans, but it gets a lot of use by the current owners.

we sold our van which was a 2001, double pitch roof (not the tiled roof) for roughly the same price it cost us after we had shipped it out from the UK after about 9 years use. that made it around 15 years old, yet still sold for around 17k ! so we then shipped another one out from the UK and have had it there about 5 years this year and judging by recent sales, we would still get back what it cost us!

so, Colins comments above are pretty accurate.

the downside to it all however, is that you cant use it for weekend use though site fees are around £2100 so could give you some good value long holidays.

Camping Le Ragis, Challans, where our van is are still taking 'bring ons' BUT spaces are getting limited. i have seen other sites advertising on web sites such as leboncoin.fr and vivastreet.fr - some sites are run by english families so it might make it easier to communicate.

if anyone is seriously considering it, then i would suggest staying away from the big 'named' sites and look for smaller, rural/farm type sites.

as an example

i have no idea of price or what they are offering or have any connections with them, it might be what you are looking for, it might not be !!

do your research and due diligence searches, visit the areas youre interested in and get to look at as many campsites as you can ON LINE BEFORE you go. sometimes the only way to find sites is to drive past them, the smaller/family run sites often have signage outside offering 'emplacements'.

If you like the park you are on, why not find out what it would cost to upgrade? With a static, the park/plot/area are always more important than the van itself.

I think 22seaside has it right unless you intend to relocate abroad.

A 15 year old static is virtually worthless without a site, and with site owners virtually all adopting a policy of "buy from us or you aren't welcome" that makes things so much worse. The only real markets for statics sold off-site are businesses that want a site-hut, or people who want somewhere to live while they renovate an old house. They have a ready-made site in their own garden.

We live in South Devon, no where here will take a used static, they want to sell you one.
Have a look on eBay they're as cheap as chips.
Even trying to scrap a static is difficult as no one will take them.
I think I read a post on here where a guy ended up scrapping his himself, he used it to live in while renovating his house. It said it was in really nice condition, but he couldn't give it away. It took 3 large skips.
Sad, but that's how it is.
