Just looked on a site where we used to have a static and noticed that their licence has increased from 14yrs to 17yrs now on NEW & some USED vans. Lets hope this is a start to owners getting the time length they deserve on these ever increasing expensive holiday homes.

Yes indeed Geoffprinter, I think static owners deserve a break.

I must admit I would never buy a static in this country for many reasons, none the least of which is that I couldn't afford it. For those who do want one and can afford it I would just say be very, very careful. My own experience with my mobile home (Park-Home) before the law change, and the experience of my one-time workmate with his static have put me off for life, except as a renter. My friend had an "understanding" with the site owners that he could stay on the site for as long as he continued to pay his fees. Then out of the blue the site owners sold up and the new owners refused point-blank to honour that agreement, giving my friend just a few weeks to remove his unit from the site. They said that they were "updating" the site and wanted all units over 10 years old off the site. My friend's was in good condition, but well over 10 years old, and he got "pocket-money" for it. I don't remember all the details, but I believe the site was in Essex somewhere.

Best Regards,
Colin

Ok as the O/P has not come back on this topic I am going to leave it there. Both sides have been expressed and its down to them to decide what to do next. A good debate all in all and more to come I am sure.

Yes indeed, only the O/P can make that decision, and whatever they decide to do I hope it works out the best for them.

it depends on where you are, putting your location would be a help. ebay would be my first place to look, then contacting some sites nearby. As for transporting there are loads of haulage companies that would do that, even the site would be able to help, but don't buy anything until you have planning permission!

eBay, tons of them cos you can't put them anywhere else in UK but your own land or a friends land, not a cat in hells chance of putting one on a site. If you get one for less than £50 you can make your money back in scrap!
Google caravan movers for transport but you will pay a price!

Times have changed now Grandad Kenny! You cant Just be scrapping statics willy-nilly! They now have to be RE-CYCLED I was involved in caravan haualge until very recently and would always remove old statics if in the area and transport them to any local scrapyard that would accept them. The only income for us was the haulage and contrary to popular belief..it wasnt a lot of money! We actually had to pay the scrapyard to take them and this was usually between £200 and £400. They used to just rip the aluminium off and burn the rest--but not now--everything has to be dismantled and recycled. The amount of work involved and the rubbish generated for the financial returns makes it simply not worth doing.A static caravan broken down would fill one or two large skips with wood, glass, furniture, insulation etc. You are left with the aluminium(has to be nail-free or its classed as contaminated)and the steel chassis/axle which has to be cut up into approved lengths!
Due to hassle involved we found that the "scrapyards"were no longer interested and we had no outlet for old vans.I have heard of land-fill sites taking them-but again at a cost.
A lot of old statics were being exported from Hull but everything has to work( A-frame,corner steadies and tyres etc) before they can be accepted on a ship and on a van at the end of its life--that usually means spending money!
Where do old statics go to die now? Farmers usually know
