Hi

I realise most on here use touring vans, but perhaps there are some who have had a static, my questions are, how long before you got fed up with going to the same area, did you sign an agreement of terms conditions, ie age of van when it was to be taken of site, any pit falls that newbies to statics might not know about.??

thanks in advance.

Hi Sparky40

Haven't owned a static myself but have heard through friends that a lot of sites only have caravans up to a certain age and that you eithe then have to purchase a new one from that site, or remove your old one.  I think you would have to look at the Terms and Conditions on whatever site you decided to stay.  As to whether you get fed up with going to the same area, then that is up to the individual - some people like going to the same site year after year, just like my sister's in-laws.

Don't know whether this helps but good luck.

Hi Sparky, we owned 3 statics at Craig Tara (Haven park).

My first bit of advice would be don't do it.  The amount of money we lost when we sold was beyond your wildest dreams.

We had ours for 6 ish years and did enjoy them we let 2 and kept one for us.

We sold our's as the kids got sick of traverling as they got older.

Remember all the hidden costs, water, lec, gas and insurance.  Bottled gas can cost up to £50 per month site fees, have friends who pay £4500 per year.  Cost of travel to and from.

We went from a new 38ft double glazed, central heating, washing machine, fridge freezer double walk in shower to a tent and never looked back.

Now we have just bought a motorhome which we get on saturday.

If you are still wanting to buy, DON'T RUSH ask other owners on the site you are interested in, about after sales service.  Look on the web for any complaints about your site.

If you can go to the show that is in Hull in September you can have a good look at all makes and models.

Don't let them talk you into inventory pack, you can buy your quilts etc much cheaper elsewere.  Ask for things like steps and tv ariels as these can be charged extra.  If you wish to let your van you need a tv licence so more money to consider and PAT test to be done on all electrical stuff, can be £4.50 per item.

Have a look on the Rockly Park web site loads of info there.

Hope I haven't put you off, we enjoyed our vans when we had them but they were money pits.  Looking back we learnt a very costly lesson.

Good luck and I hope you find what you want.

Hi Sparky

Couldn't agree more with Caroleeeeee, don't rush into it. We owned a static, bought it in the middle of the season, when the rates were due for the next season ...... they put it up by 30%    Why?  because they can!

I would just say pick your site carefully and ask people on site who own vans of their experiences.

As a child my mom & dad had a van also, it was great for the first year, but after a while us kids got fed up of gong to the same place with the same things to do.  Our kids love going to different places, different adventures.  They also have the choice of which sites we re-visit.

Hope this has helped

A lot of good info from caroleeeeeeeeeeee above, but beware of Rockley Park. I have a static close by, and know a few of the Rockley owners...how can I put this nicely.....the sales staff and management ..errr   tend to wear striped jerseys and carry bags with SWAG written on them, basically they're crooks.
Statics on my park have a "shelf life " of 10 to 15 yrs, which I think is an industry guide rather than a park owner decision.
I have had a static / sited tourer in the same area for about 20 yrs, and still not seen everything...that said I am looking for summat to tour with in my retirement !

Hi

Many thanks for the reply's, some good info there, we are aware of loss on the statics, we intend for first one to spend about 10-15k, i will be choosing a site that doesnt have a 15 year only term, the ones i have will look at will be as long as they are kept in good order can stay, however i know they can order work to be done etc.

we was going for a new motor home, and well as the touring van we have, but now the OH wants another collie and i cant be doing with traveling with 2 dogs in a small place, so what we thinking was if we had a nice size static it might work...or it might not. we still need a tourer as OH takes dogs to agility around the uk. i will not be touring as much if we do get a static or a seasonal pitch with a large tourer on.

i want to live by the sea, OH doesnt at moment, so this might be a good idea also at least i can go if i want when i want. without having to book up.

i will try to get info on charge increase's as mentioned, the sites so far of interest, although we havent been to look, is Haven and burnham village near burnham on sea area.

Sorry I should have made it clearer, I didn't mean to buy or ask for info from Rockly It was the website I was refering to.

As I remember I was a site set up by owners and their experiences.

Take care all

Yep, I know the website you mean, its the owners own website.
Sorry for the confusion, but I've been waylaid by Rockley salesmen......not a pleasant experience...

Sparky, why not consider a touring caravan on a seasonal pitch. That way if you do get fed up of the site its easy enough to move somewhere else.

We have had a tourer on the same site for 4 years now. Many of the folks on the site in Statics do tend to mention although they get a longer season than those of us with tourers, the statics are a lot harder to heat in winter.

Hi

Yes we are very interested in the option of seasonal pitch,an being to store there also, we will buy a big tourer and then just get some one to move it, i can only tow 1.6 tons, we would like a pitch some where at moment near burnham on sea area.so if any one has or knows of a good site for this....we like quiet if poss...we would be very gratefull.
