My mother in law has a static in West Wales, she paid £6000 for a 6 yr old van with 2 bedrooms, rent is £1700, plus insurance, gas and electric. She doesn't rent hers out, she absolutley loves it, recently had a very small club house built, no shop or anything else on the site, but thats the way she likes it.

You need to be careful that there isn't an age limit on the van & site. Some sites say no older than 10 years so once they reach that age you have to upgrade and buy from them! Luckily hers is fine as long as the vans are looked after, so she really won't loose that much money as she is there all summer hols, all half terms and as many weekends as possible.

We are looking at getting one about 7 years old and only looking at sites that will gives us at least until the van is 15 years old.  Also trying to get on a site that is open till january so we can get more usage out of it.

It seems you have to be wise to these sites but hopefully I will be able to go in with my eyes wide open if we do decide to go along this route.  I interrogate them all with my list of questions!!

Unless you have a large wedge of cash you are prepared to fritter away, DON'T BUY A STATIC.

The site owners hold all the cards.  Its just a bottomless pit into which you are expected to pour large amounts of money.  Walk away
