Hi just looking for some advice,my mother in law has bought a static caravan on a retirment park and had the builders in to totally gut the inside, new floors, walls, ceilings electrics etc and apart from the usual builder problems its looking ok apart from one thing which I think is quite serious but just dont know how serious it is. The builders have used screws that are too long and have come through the wall and can be seen on the outside now so they have pierced the seal of the caravan haven't they ??????

HOW SEROIUS IS THIS, HOW COULD IT BE RECTIFIED ?

Hi.I would say this is very serious.By static caravan,do you mean the usual holiday caravan with metal sides or is it a park home with wooden sides? If it is a normal metal caravan i would say that this is more serious because nine times out of ten the sides are one complete sheet of metal and probably very difficult to replace as opposed to wooden sections on a park home.Filler would only last so long against the elements in either of the above though.

water ingress on any caravan be it a tourer or static can have a catastrophic effect on the integrity of the van.I would be seeking the builders insurance details pronto

Firms who renovate static and park home type vans are highly specialised companies.

We know a number of folks who live in Park Homes near us and indeed we are contemplating moving into one of these ourseves, so naturally we have been looking into the feasability of adding an extension to whatever we buy.

The very idea of using a builder from any company other than one from a Park Home specialised company would never have crossed my mind.

I think you should be suing your builder for the cost of replacing the walls as that will be the only way of making good the damage that has been done.

Second that. They DO know better than to do that,if they have even a years experience.Small claims court will walk all over them, plus local press coverage will seriously affact their business.Dont be intimidated out of using these resources.
