Its very hard to site your own caravan in england and they have to be bought through the site. They then have a site licence between 10 and 15 years unless you are very lucky, Is it different in france ? can you just take your own on ?

I think SIblu would charge you around €1000 to site, and then €3,000 or so per annum.  Plus your shipping costs etc...

Siblu Normandy had a two bedroom static for £9k including site fees for 2011, when I was out there in August.

i did exactly what youre planning to do a few years ago! it worked out brilliantly and someone else on our site did it 2 years ago - the site is on the vendee and still accepts uk vans etc. there is NO age restriction on vans once on site (though they prefer 'newish' ones, which is understandable), and they charge around 1500 euros as a one off gate fee. site fees are 2010 euros

we bought our van from sambecks in colchester, who now have 'contact; with the site, but there are lots of other companies out there who could sort it for you and might have similar links

the site is Le Ragis, Challans, http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/details.asp?revid=6561 - please note i have no commercial interest or involvement in either the caravan retailer OR the site

if you want any more info just ask?

We had a 3 bedroomed Bluebird (Brookwood Lodge) until about 2 years ago.  It had a centre lounge with double bedroom and ensuite shower room at one end and two bedrooms plus a cloakroom (toilet and washbasin) at the other.  They don't make them now but we bought it (or rather our insurance company did!) in 2000 so would be around the age you are looking for.  I might be able to find some photos I could email you.

josephine, the pics on my profile show my van on the vendee!! we have had it now for 5 years and its brilliant, its as good as when we bought it second hand (we had the worktops and sink changed before it was shipped out from the uk - we liked the van but not the green coloured wortops and the green sink!) - you could also have new carpets fitted and curtains changed etc if required. best to do it before it gets sited if it is far from home! dont be scared to change the fridge and cooker aswell, it might seem a bit drastic, but it can transform a caravan (kitchens and bathrooms sell homes, so why not mobile homes!!)

we visited lots of caravan sellers and settled on the 35' x 12' cosalt super rimini, which has the best layout for our use, its double glazed, electric heating in all rooms (cheaper to run that in uk!) but to be honest we rarely use the heating. the van is double glazed - though not sure how efficient it is! the bathroom is quite large AND the shower is big and doesnt have the 'big' step up that many vans seem to have, its like a shower tray you may have at home (pedantic i know, but it makes it easier for the old gits, oops, inlaws, who use OUR van more than we do!

we didnt like the centre lounge layout although could see an advantage in bedrooms at each end. we found living space was compromised by the centre lounge layout.

we like to socialise and the layout means we can easily have more than 10 people in, all seated on the fixed furniture. i have seen a 32' x 12' with 3 bedrooms, but i assume there is also a 35' x 12' with 3 bedrooms? the pitched roof keeps it looking 'current', its now 10 years old but still looks pretty much new.

ours only has two bedrooms, but that makes the master bedroom so much bigger, if you dont need the extra bedroon it might be worth considering. the only things i would change would be to have the white doors (which are more like normal house doors) and air conditioning, neither of which are an issue and i could fit air con if i really needed it!

if you look at the profile pics you will that we have a deck and covered 'awning'. we spend the majority of our time out there in our 'conservatory' LOL. so you may want to consider the additional cost of such a decking etc (i extended mine round the back of the van aswell) rather than sitting out on the grass etc, it has doubled our living space.  if you go for more bedrooms, that implies more people, so the addtional 'outside' space might be a neccessity?

we also bought a shed and fitted it out with units, washing machine, fridge freezer so its like a utility room, which again frees up lots more space in the van. if you intend having lots of people (3 beds, so i am assuming up to 8 people?) the extra storage space would be invaluable especially the large fridge freezer and washer.

i suppose what i am trying to suggest is that you should consider not just the number of bedrooms in the van, but how you will use it and how you can 'increase' the living accomodation. more bedrooms means less space in the van, BUT this can be offset by utlising the plot by adding decking/shed etc. but be warned to ask first, we had to buy the deck through the site (though i made the 'extended deck' myself), and had to buy a specific model of shed to 'match' others on site, so this added to the initial purchase cost. also you will need to ask re the size of the van - where we are there is a maimum of 40 sqm for vans which means that a 37' x 12' would not be allowed,

so check out the static caravan retailers websites, plenty out there! then go and visit them, spend some time working out which one best fits your needs and be prepared to compromise on layout, because you could always add outside space, but NEVER compromise on quality, if its crap it will only get crappier!!! and dont buy online without checking the van first.

dave
