Hi all...

I was wondering if anybody knows of a location in East Sussex where i might be able to site a static caravan, in the event that i find one i can afford - im not familiar with the laws etc and i have exhausted my grey matter with days of searching fruitlessly online.

So to the forum, i submit these questions;

What is the maximum time one can inhabit a static home? There seems to be a lot of different information, some of which seems conflicting.

a
Can i rent a spot or do i have to buy some land?

hi, my brother-in-law has a static van in Dorset, 14 years old with 12 months left before the site is making him either sell the van back to them for 250 quid and buy a newer one from them or getting off the site. most sites seem to set their limit at around 15/20 years although I have heard of some that let you stay longer as long as your van is in good condition. I'm waiting to hear myself from a site that I've heard may accept older vans....watch this space !!

Kent, Isle of Sheppey there is a site (we are on) they don't have an age limit and have some spaces I believe. Area isn't the most inspiring and site is a bit run down but it's cheapest we could find (£1300 per annum plus gas and electric).

Even if you were to buy your own land you still need planning permission to site a static caravan and live in it. The time per annum that a static can be occupied for depends on the local authority's bye laws and what the conditions of the owners site licence are. Most are from around March to October inclusive, I do know of a site in Yorkshire with all owner occupiers that have an extended licence for 11months of the year, but they dont allow lettings for gain, its occupancy by friends and family of the caravans owner only.

Some people get around the problem by buying a large tourer and moving sites within the same area every 28days or as long as the site licence allows.
