I have a static on the haven site Marton Mere. I am looking to re-site the van to save on the annual costs, does anyone know anywhere either towards the lake district or Scarborough way that would take a static. Havens site fees are around £4000 Plus gas & Leccy, I would like to pay around half that if poss. Not fussed about all the amenities.

When we looked into the possibily of moving our static off a Haven Site, they said they would make a hefty charge for a tractor to come onto their site to tow it off.

Can't remember exactly how much, but it was a lot.

As it happens, we couldn't find a different site and sold it back to Haven at a huge loss.

Hope you have more luck and are sucessful in your search!

Try our sister park - Crows Nest Caravan Park, Gristhorpe, Filey.

All sites will have a disconnection charge, you will also have transport to pay before it gets to the park.

Reading the comments on here about Haven really makes me want to remind everyone thinking of buying a static to really do your homework before you go ahead.

We have often holidayed at Haven and its like, and every time you witness the same thing - people in the middle of their precious, much enjoyed holiday, being seduced by the brand new caravans being marketed with "easy finance".

My personal feeling is that unless you are going to sub-let, Haven is not a good choice. Haven sites are geared more and more to the short-break holidaymakers so there are always comings and goings. They also tend to be very busy what with their kids clubs, amusement arcades, pools etc.  So all in all there's not much peace and quiet - there are always new arrivals with kids running around in a state of high excitement. That's fine if you're on holiday too, but ask yourself if that's what you really want every weekend if you intend to use your van as a relaxing bolthole. Don't forget you will be paying a high site fee for the facilities - won't you soon get bored with the two week rolling programme of entertainment and the familiar menu in the restaurants?

On the other hand, if you're only intending to use your van for a couple of main holidays a year, then sub-let for the rest of the time, you should be able to cover the site fees and you may be well happy.

As far as losing money on resale I'm afraid that just goes with the territory of static ownership. Site owners are business people - their business is to make money facilitating your hobby. The more facilities you've enjoyed the bigger the hit you're likely to take, its the way it works.

Traffords caravan park near Bassenthwaite could be worth a look...i camp there quite often...only a shop and a local pub but fees under £2000 per year. If you havent moved as yet....some advice for you.Make sure everything works on your caravan...the hitch...especially the corner steadies and the tyres have a decent amount of air in them..this could be as much as 90p.s.i.  Then pack your interior properly...secure all loose furniture...all doors..fridge..cooker etc  fasten your blinds in the folded position.Check shower doors and swinging light fittings...toilet cistern lids if ceramic.sounds like a lot to do..but the site staff will probably not do it and quite happily DRAG your van off causing expensive damage and then point out the small print showing that you are responsible for maintenance! The disconnection fees are unbelievable at some of the large group owned sites but they have it all tied up in the small print.Good luck....p.s  I am a caravan haulage and siting person...not an advert..just sharing my experience.
