I am originally from Canada so am quite new to the UK regulations on static caravans. I am wondering if anyone knows if there are any regulations against woodburning stoves as I'm rather keen on off grid living. I'm looking to purchase an older 'retro' van this summer (2012) and hopefully situating it up in the Cumbria/Lake District if I can find a suitable place. If anyone can help with the regulation querie and/or of a possible site/for sale they know of, even private, I'd be grateful.
hi.I dont think there are any rules to say you can't have a woodburner in a static. As long as the flu is up to it you are ok.However, buying an old static and finding a site to take it is another matter entirely.

For the life of me I can't understand why the discrimination against older statics if they are well maintained and structurally sound unless it's based solely on money grasping? . I've read through previous posts of someone looking for lake district sites for his mum and found a reply pointing to a site in Lancashire that accepts older caravans but it sadly rarely has any vacancies. On checking the webpage out the site owner described his site as not only having a wider variety of statics but also in owners, something that I think lends to having an interesting community. If I had the money I'd certainly open a residential park that allows older vans as there seems to be an overwhelming need for it .. where on earth do all these statics one sees on ebay find homes?
But thank you for the responses n terms of the wood burners.. in this day when we seem tied to the big energy companies it's nice to think there'd be an alternative viable heating source for the static owner. and yes I've recently become aware of the emissions controls as my daughters just had a woodburner stove fitted into their house and they live in a green zone.
Hi Rena, just doing some research regarding installing a woodburner in static and came accross your post. We have just bought an old static to replace our tourer on a seasonal pitch in Sedbergh near Kendal, Cumbria. It's a farm called Holme Open farm and its basic but lovely with river. We are allowed any age static as long as you look after them, also allowed open fires outside. And I'm sure there are a couple of pitches available. We would really like to put woodburner in so just trying to find a suitable one and then find best way of fitting it. Hope this helps.
