We are thinking of selling our caravan and going holiday parks instead. There are obviously reasons for this mainly I don't like driving caravan any distance so we want to go likes of Cornwall etc.. Also I want a more economical car for general use. Is there any other forums like this one that cater for 'static' holidays...?

Alternatively get a folding caravan. Much easier to tow as they aren't much taller than a normal trailer and more economical than a normal van. The you can still enjoy caravanning without being ripped off by holiday parks.

They are much light too, so you can get a smaller car.

        We like idea of home comforts like a shower. One thing we might do is I buy my wife a small 'shopping' car  and I have her Nissan Note.

My parents have a static holiday lodge in the Lake District at a park called White Cross Bay. Lake District Holiday Homes

Me and my partner have stayed over with them on a couple of occassions and we have always really enjoy it.

The park is sat on the shores of Lake Windermere and is surrounded by stunning countryside scenery. They have all the holiday park facilities you would expect including indoor pool, sauna, gym, bar, childrens play area and restaurant.

There are an endless amount of things to do in the Lake District, including golf, fishing, walking, climbing, cycling....

The residents at the park are very friendly and were very welcoming when my parents first visited.

We would highly recommend getting a holiday home at White Cross Bay. I believe South Lakeland Parks also have static holiday homes on the North West coast if you do like to be beside the seaside.

Anyone have any experience of owning a static. We're thinking of getting one but the Site is quoting £9,000 over the RRP price from the manufacturer.

I can understand high site fees for a 5 star site and maybe some markup on the price but £9K seems way over the odds.

You can have your creature comforts in a folding van, we have cooker, grill, pumped water/sink/drainer and fridge. We take a porta potti but it is possible to get folders with toilet compartment.

As for showers, thats entirely personal, but i prefer to use the campsite facilities as they are larger and better appointed and far less hassle.

youre forgetting of course that those 'odds; are heavily stacked in favour of the camp site owners !! do what we did, found a site in france that would accept statics being sited (about 15oo euros now - it was free when we did it) and shipped out a very good second hand uk van - save a fortune!!!!
