Ok, myself, partner and 2 kids are skint, and currently trying to save desperately for a house. We are contemplating living in our tourer for a while, while we save and I want to check the law about doing this as its my parents garden we'd be in. I've looked and all I can seem to find is living on a site seasonally. We are based in Perthshire in Scotland and if anyone is able to offer some guidance I'd be really grateful. I've emailed the council but thought I'd ask you good people too.
English law says the maximum period you can use a van in these circumstances is twentyeight nights in any one year, I would think this would apply in Scotland as well.

There is another thread up here somewhere about this: the way forward seems to be to join the Caravan and Camping Club so you can use the little Certificated Sites but you will have to move every 28 days. If your kids are in school you are going to have to find a circuit of them around where you need to be.
There also seem to be some mailing services that are approved by the DVLA so you can have driving licences and the like sent to them and they will forward them to the site you are on.
I am seriously considering this myself.
mailing service is just redirected post from a permanant house(or just get mail redirected to a PO box)hardest bit is getting a house address as post office wont set up a PO box unless u have 1 and a lot of sites dont allow post to be redirected to them unless on a residential site..
I have my works address as my home(I did ask first btw) but all my post is redirected by post office to my PO box(my local is redditch as i am based in Bidford but my ex wife and kids live in redditch)
