Marcus, as Baguette suggested, youre better off finding an area you like rather than just a site. we are both on the Vendee around 7 hours from Calais (faster if the wife is driving or we use the toll roads)
you also need to decide how/when, youre going to use it, that way you can ask all the relevant questions beforehand. the most important to us was can we bring our own van on, is there an age limit on the van and if we sell, do we have to sell through the site. we got a no to all questions, so chose Camping Le Ragis in Challans, Les Prairies required us to sell through them (at the time, it might have changed?) so we opted for Le Ragis and as its right on the edge of a major town, the local facilities are superb and we're only 20 mins away from fantastic beaches.
there are only about 6 English families on our site, so the site is still VERY French orientated. I am not sure how many pitches are left for anyone to bring on their own vans, but I know they are diminishing fast!
you could always do a search on Le Bon Coin, or Vivastreet - search for emplacement - and you will find other sites offering pitches (emplacements). Some may be free, others will charge.
it really is an easy process once you have an emplacement agreed and nothing to get worried about. The hardest bits are choosing the right campsite (but if you can sell privately with no age limit, which were our priority questions, then that's not a major issue as you can always move on and potentially even make a profit if you source a good quslity recent model) and choosing which wine you prefer!
we had our van transported via the companies we bought from, Sambecks in Colchester and the Harrisons Leisure in Southport. so again, that cut down on what we had to arrange ourselves, though I accept we could have got it done a bit cheaper if we had.
if you are considering it and are in the area, we will be there from late July to early September, though I am going out on my own for a week early July to finish a few jobs on our new(er) van !
you could always pm me if you want specific information?
