When we bought our static, (we bought from caravans in the sun in the end), but we took the tent & went camping for a week in the area that we wanted to buy in.
We visited a few sites that we liked, & looked at some of the used vans that they had for sale there.
We've never regretted buying our own holiday home. We've left a tent in it & go for a mid-holiday camping holiday in the middle of our main holiday! (Last year we did Ile de Re: I tried twice to review the site on here but it wouldn't load on for some reason  )
As long as you accept that this isn't an investment, you will have to sell it back at a fraction of what you paid for it, you'll be fine. We've had some great holidays in ours with our 2 lads, so from that perspective, it's been a great investment!
My aunt and uncle have bought a house in the Charente Maritime as a holiday home & investment. My uncle has to hot-foot it over there to deal with tiles on the roof, storm damage etc. They have a nice back yard with a BBQ & table & chairs. We lock our van up, in its garden, with its decking, bar, table tennis, indoor & outdoor pools & know that if anything needs attention, Elizabet will be on the phone & we can e-mail to organise anything. When my youngest left his glasses behind, Michel the manager went in & posted them to us. When we're not there, we really can forget about it.
We use a French company, Poitiers Mutuel, to insure it with & it's about €100 per year.
I hope that you find something that meets your needs, but my best advice is to go and visit the area & walk round sites with statics for sale. Good Luck!
