My friend has a static caravan and as the site doesn't have a mains toilet waste would like to fit a chemical toilet into the van but be able to empty it from the outside. Can you fit a chemical toilet to a static van the same way as a touring van by cutting away the outside panel and making a door from this piece or would he have to use a separate piece of metal for the door. The outside panels are in thin sections so don't know if this would work

I don't know the answer to your question directly but something else to be considered is whether the person wants a manual or electric flush toilet installed. A manual toilet requires no electrical power but if a 12 volt electric flush type is preferred then power will be required to operate the pump which in turn will have to be powered by a battery that will need to be charged by an independent charger linked to the mains electric. The battery will also need to be isolated in it's own compartment very much the same as a touring caravan for safety reasons. Just thought it was worth mentioning as there is more to consider than just the installation.

He already has 12 volt lighting in the van with a battery charged from mains so don't think that would be a problem. My touring caravan toilet is a manual flush and he wants something like mine so don't think he'd be bothered about electric flush

he could do as you suggested, however the construction of newer tourers are different than statics. statics are normally a layer of tin/aluminium over a timber framework with fibre insulation and then internal wall panel (or replace the aluminium with upvc cladding). modern tourers tend to be more of preformed section of aluminium,foam and then the internal panel walls in a preformed 'sandwich', which makes the 'door' a bit easier. if I was cutting a 'door', I would get some expanding foam and fill the cavity around the opening to give it some additional stability, trimming it off after a few hours. I would then do the same with the 'door' construction, making sure the dimensions in terms of thickness remained the same. could he design some sort of sewage system (septic tank) clubbing together with other close by caravans (depending on site owner approval of course) or he could be really brave and go for a composting toilet.
