Personally, I would buy the biggest tourer you can and site it on a seasonal touring pitch. Less overheads and if for any reason you want to swap sites or finish completely then you can sell/move the van without all the red tape that goes with a static.

Wish I could go camping more and not have to work for a living!!!

Agree with above.
Some nice big tourers that will do the job of a static.
And you can move when you like as well.

Whatever you do good luck to you

Good point about getting a large tourer, and it does make sense in a lot of ways. But if you are like us and want ALL the comforts of home, then a static is for you. They are all plumbed in so no more lugging water carriers, no more trips emptying the chemical toilet, proper shower or bath (depending on model) You can usually add a veranda round one to give you that "at home" feel. My one piece of advice if you go down the static route would be check the site VERY carefully and make sure you really like it, and there is plenty of places around for you to spend days out. You will be spending a lot of years there, so do your research. It will lose value at about the same rate a car would, eventually being worthless, depending on the amount of years the site lets you leave it on their pitch. (check the licence agreement) We really enjoy the static life, but its not cheap to have one. There are no frills on our site but it is a lovely quiet site. Seasons cost is around 3grand site fees, which I guess is about average. Good luck anyway whichever way you choose to go.

best piece of advice I can offer is NOT to buy a static until you have found a site willing it to take it, if you intend to buy and site it. if you want one already on site then that's a different issue, though you will still need to confirm with the site owners how long it can stay on for. I suggest you also enquire about the costs of removal and the process, as that can be quite costly if youre not going through the site.

Definitely do not even think of buying a static then looking for a site. You almost certainly won't find one. If you want a static, as opposed to a very large tourer on a seasonal pitch, then find a site first then see what statics they are willing to put on it. Look very, very carefully at any paperwork, particularly regarding fees and age limits on sited vans. Most sites have age limits for their vans, and an elderly, unsited static is virtually worthless, unless you have your own land to put it on.

Best Regards,
Colin
