Hoping to find a caravan site(s) in Devon/Dorset/Somerset that will accept the relocation of a well looked after 2008 Willerby Herald 28x10 caravan. Accept that there will be fees/other costa involved.

Oh dear. This question gets asked many, many, MANY times and the answer's always the same - you'll be hard pushed to find anywhere that will accept any static that you haven't bought from the site.

Have a look through some of the questions/answers in the Statics sub-forum/board where your question has been asked before.

Good luck with your quest though. You never know, you may find the one and only site in the whole of the UK that will accept offsite statics.

Sorry but I have to agree with other posters. This is rip-off Britain and it is highly unlikely that you will find any site anywhere in Britain that will site a static they haven't sold. Also, many sites have an age limit which makes things even worse. That age limit is often 10 years, so finding a site for a static over 10 years old, however well looked after, is nigh-on impossible.

Would you consider relocating abroad? I hear that sites in France are nowhere near as restricting as in Britain.

Thanks to you who have posted replies to my enquiry. Your comments do make sense in relation to the challenge of 'bring on' statics to caravan parks however, I have found individual sites in Wales, Norfolk and Somerset who are prepared to accommodate my request. The catch of course is that they require a 'gate fee' to be paid which varies between £5k to £10k which does affect any decision to go ahead

Thanks for getting back to us, as your info might be useful to someone. Usually when someone poses that question and it gets answered, we never hear from them again.

I'm not at all surprised by the "gate fee", and there would also be other considerations I'm sure. None the least being the transportation cost which can be a 4 figure sum. All in all it would probably work out cheaper to buy from a site, but that then leaves you with the problem of disposing of the old one. I hope everything works out for you as you would wish.

The other thing to watch for is the maximum age of the static as most parks have a maximum age of the unit which is normally about 15 years old. At that stage your pride and joy effectively becomes worthless.

The " gate fee" mentioned previously is basically the site owners recouping the commission they would have made if they had allowed a dealer to sell a van on their site--or the profit they would have made selling a van to you directly.
Just to give you an idea of where the static caravan market is right now--there is a site on the A17 at Fosdyke (Lincolnshire)giving statics away FREE!! Some of them look quite decent but no sites to put them on. Can easily be found on google maps if you want one for your garden!

Be careful, there will be a huge fee to pay and an age restriction on the van, as others have said there are no sites in UK that accept bring ons (without some caveat)

Bluexpo..that area used to be a good outlet for old statics due to farmers snapping them up for housing the immigrant workers! now they cant even give them away! I was involved in the industry for a long time until recently and a good measure of caravan age was a flat roof--now even pitched roof vans fall within the" too old "bracket.
I have posted before about old statics but only this week I have watched as a 30x10 static at the place where I work has been offered free to anybody could remove it--no takers! The outcome has been seeing the owner scrap the van by hand and load it into skips.I have seen 3 full skips taken away so far and there is probably enough left to fill another! Im guessing a full size skip costs more than £100? Not a lot left in scrap value to recoup your losses.
There is a market for them in the old russian states--but you get next to nothing for them and everything must be sound and working before they are allowed on a ferry. A 15 year old static will need some money and/or hard work to bring it up to this standard.
Site owners usually insist on a high end insurance policy mainly to cover the cost of removal should somebody disappear and leave an elderly static behind or it may have possibly caught fire??!! Quite a lot of 14 year old vans catch fire at the end of the season--strange that!

After reading a similar thread on a previous occasion I got curious and looked on ebay just to see what sort of price statics were on there. Quite by chance there was one coming up to its deadline, so I stayed watching just to see what it went for. I had a look at all the pictures showing inside and out, and it looked quite decent, I certainly wouldn't have minded staying in it for a couple of weeks holiday. It went for £120! Less than I would have had to have paid to rent it for a week.
