you will usually have to pay a 'gate fee' to site your van, but that might also include installation. Installation though can be full connection to the services or just levelling up on concrete blocks, so you need to make sure what you are getting.
i would allow £3.5k for transport from Uk to France (anything up to 1000 miles one way) and 2k for a gate fee including full installation. which is a 'tad' less than the 12k suggested by caravans in the sun !
depending on the condition of your van it might be worth just picking up a second hand one off site in france in the area you want to go to, but you will still pay a gate fee of course. take a look on the french site leboncoin.fr -
for your info we paid around 12k for our first van ( a 2001 cosalt rimini) inc transport about 13 years ago and sold it for around 18k 4 years ago, we had added decking, shed (utility room/kitchen) we then bought a van from Southport which was a couple of years old, which cost 16k inc shipping, which now we have added decking and a shed (utility/kitchen) would sell for around 23k
i am assuming your current site has an age clause, so make sure the french site doesnt (most smaller, family run sites dont) stay away from large sites such as Haven - though i doubt they would let you on anyway lol. there are still some british ran, smaller sites that would allow bring ons, but you need to find them. i suspect caravans in the sun have done their homework and have a list of such sites.
where in france have you been looking? we are on the vendee about 20 mins from the beaches. because there are so many camp sites in this area, there is likely to be sites that allow bring ons, but you might have to do some leg work ....i have also seen pitches being offered around brittany on another french web site vivastreet.fr look for 'emplacement' - which is a 'pitch' for a static.
as for fees, we pay around 2400 euros, which seems to be the norm for the area, plus gas and electricity
let me know if you need any more info/help
