We now have a static (being used as an office) with no connection to a sewer. I remember a filter system that was required to be used in France which allowed the grey water to be drained into a hedge.
Has anyone any details of this system or any other ideas. A cesspit or cesspool would not be an option.

are you talking about grey water (water from sinks, etc) or sewage (water from toilets)?
If sewage, then I doubt that there is any system in the UK that will allow legal discharge into a hedge.
If grey water, then there seem to be quite a few websites advertising systems, mainly to enable re-use in order to flush toilets.
If being used as an office, then surely the easiest solution is to come indoors to use the facilities.

Grey water only! From sink and occasional shower. I am looking at the websites now and some seem promising.
The 'office' is in a remote rural location. There is no 'indoors'.

you could just as easy install your own water filter system so that water discharges into your own ground/land and is cleaned and filtered by the ground itself, works best if youre using 'green/environmental' detergents and you maintain it by removing any build up of grease/food stuffs etc.

obviously you dont want it discharging into water courses etc, though it doesnt seem to matter if you have a boat on the broads ...

Many thanks for info. We have decided to do just as you suggest and dig a pit, fill it with gravel and let nature take its course. An adjacent stable block discharges rain water to a soak away involving a much greater amount of water.

look at reed bed systems aswell, easy to install. when we wanted to install a washing machine in our static in france, instead of a long run of pipework, i installed a sump and home made land drain. works really well.

all it is really doing is the same as it would do if connected up to the site drainage (which isnt mains drainage), but is only for GREY water remember !

Hiya. I am also interested in this topic, as have a very similar requirement to the OP. Having done a bit of reading on this it looks like the Environments Agency seem to take a dim view of releasing grey water in the ground via a soakaway, but I can't find any crystal clear guidelines around this, it all seems a little hazy.

I have a shower cabin going in which will also have a sink for washing up plates etc. (toilet is composting). I have been researching off-grid filtration systems for this scenario, but there don't appear to be too many options, and I do wonder what value they add over simply running the water through sane and then gravel.

Does anybody else have any good insight on this?

Look up the website for the Centre for Alternative Technology in Wales. Loads of information on dealing with waste water, recycling waste water etc, easy to search for too. It will be compliant with regulations because they run courses.
(Plenty of off grid toilet systems too.)
