They don't call this rip-off Britain for nothing. From what I have read France is much more accommodating to both motorhomers and static owners. It's one thing I really don't like about Britain, lovely country though it is, there always seems to be someone waiting to screw you over and take as much money from you as they can get away with. I'm just glad I have a fairly small, old caravan, paid for in full, that I can keep at home. All it costs me when I am not using it is insurance, and being old that is hardly more than £1 a week.

I have looked at statics and still have a hankering now and again. However, I've always settled on a sited tourer instead. I love the idea of having a holiday home, somewhere already there without the hassle of touring and setting up. We are moving to our third site. First one we were there for 5 years, our current one 8 years. Excited for our next move. The only reason we have moved each time is to try a different area - both sites we were on were wonderful. For us it works well. I don't find it overly expensive as we get plenty of use in our van. And we're not stuck to it, we still holiday abroad (pre covid) and still camp in our tent or hire wigwams or similar when we fancy a change. And of course a tourer is much easier to sell on if you decide to throw in the towel. Prior to siting our van we toured for years in a caravan and in a campervan. Our current situation is the one we prefer. But horses for courses.

I like the accommodation offered by a static, and the idea of just being able to turn up and switch the lights on does appeal, but there are far too many snags involved in this country, and I can't actually think of anywhere I would want to go time after time. Apart from the obvious financial considerations, that is why we decided on a tourer. No age restrictions, easier to sell on, and costs nothing when we aren't using it.

In our opinion, the only way to have a holiday in a static in this country is to rent one, which we have done.
