I read a lot about wintering your static if you are closing it down for winter. Does anyone here use their static during the winter. How do you winterise your static for use during the colder frosty months. We would intend to use ours (when we get it) as we are in a year round site and that is part of the attraction.

You will first need to check your insurance, as many (most?) will insist on either the heating being kept on at a minimum 15 degrees OR the water turned off AND the system drained each time you leave during the winter - even if you will be back the following week.
Once you know what your insurance requires, then you can decide how much of winterisation procedure you need to take each time you leave.

i assume youre getting a fully winterised van, insulated to residential standards ......?


if so, then its not really different to a house - turn everything off when youre not there ....

There are excellent Youtube clips on draining down statics for winter. They take you through it step by step.
Most insurers insist you drain down fully from November to March to avoid burst pipes.

Thanks everyone. Yes van will be 2nd hand but central heating, double glazed etc. Just a bit confused because some folk have told me they don't use their static during the winter because they can't be bothered with the faff. Just wondering what's involved. I would check insurance stipulations of course.

Fully winterised does not necessarily mean residential spec - it may just mean that it has central heating, double glazing, and a bit more insulation than usual.
Even if it IS residential spec, your insurance will almost certainly still have a clause about leaving the heating on OR carrying out a full drain down while you are away during the winter, which is what people mean when they say it is a faff using it in winter.
If it is well insulated(including the service pipes), and you are confident in your gas supply, then you may simply be able to turn off the water at the mains and leave the heating set to 15 or 18 degrees when you are away.

fully winterised would usually also mean all external pipework under the van is insulated. you should also add anti freeze to the central heating pipework -sentinel sell a combined antifreeze and inhibiter.
