As Fiona says, this question comes up regularly on here. The short answer is that there are very few static sites anywhere in Britain that will accept a caravan that they haven't sold. They have it well sewn up between them. Many sites also will not allow anything over 10 years old, so I'm afraid you have a double problem if your static is 20 years old. I would say if at all possible try and get your money back. The only other possible option is to try and get it sited abroad. Many people on here have said that foreign sites are often much less restrictive than British sites.

People looking for a site to put a static on gets asked quite a lot, but can't recall anyone coming back to report success - so it does seem to be a problem.
Only way is to hit the phone contacting parks and ask if they will take a bring-on.
Try Tingdene Lifestyle, as they sometimes accept - but be aware that many only take vans that are being relocated from one park to another, not vans that have been purchased as "off site", which is sounds as if your one is.
There is a reason why vans being sold off-site are so much cheaper than sited vans...
If the van is currently sited, can you use it where it is?

The only really viable way of buying a static in this country is to find a site you particularly like and buy one from them. Even then, it's a very risky exercise in my opinion. Often the problem comes in when sites change hands, as the new site owners seem to be able to simply tear up any agreements the static owner had with the previous site owner. The whole industry is very unregulated.
I have seen many times on here and elsewhere that someone owns a 15 year old static, which was fine until the site changed hands but the new owners have a 10 year rule and it has to go. Then nowhere else will touch it.

Your best bet might be to find a site offering seasonal seasonal pitches for tourers then buy a very large tourer and have it towed there.
Will probably work out a lot cheaper than a static as well.
Bailey actually made a large caravan specifically for seasonal pitch use.

That would be my preferred option too. No such risks with a large tourer as with a static, no age limits as far as I know, and much greater choice of sites. If you do have to move it then generally fewer problems finding somewhere else to put it.
I love statics, and we have stayed in them, but I wouldn't want to own one in this country. If we want to stay in one we just rent one for a week or two.

40 years ago, friends bought a static on a site, another couple bought a run down cottage a few miles away. They paid roughly the same amount.
The static value went down, the cottage value has kept going up. But you can’t do that any more - property is so much more expensive & run down cottages to do up gradually are almost impossible to find. We left that option too late.
That is the thing, the value of a static is really all in the site. A static without a site to put it on is worth pennies. It's basically scrap. I have never forgotten seeing what looked like a really nice static sell on ebay for the price of a couple of car-tanks full of diesel. It didn't even make £200. In all probability the person that bought it wanted it to live in on their own property while they did up a house, or a company bought it as a site hut.

or they moved it over to France, where lots of smaller sites, inc british owned, allow vans with no age limit,
approx 3k to ship it out, 1.5k to site it - but if you can get a half decent van for around 7k, then it becomes an investment as its unlikely to depreciate in value, unlike the UK !! (from ACTUAL experience not hearsay!!)

Indeed, MisterB1959. If I were in any financial position to by a static, that is certainly what I would do. No way would I have one in this country, I can't think of a much better way of getting rid of any money you don't want.
