Hi,

I have been looking to upgrade my caravan on ebay but this isn't the reason I'm asking for some ideas.

There are loads of used static caravans in great condition and more importantly, cheap. they all seem to have one thing in common, they are over a certain age. I thought it might be a nice idea to buy one as a bolt hole for my family who all have very young children so don't get away on holiday very often if at all.

My question is, does anyone out there know of any decent sites that take older statics?

That's generally why they are cheap, a lot of sites won't have them over a certain age. Also if you find a site you like,  make enquiries as to whether it's likely to change hands in the near future. You may get on with the current owners,  but circumstances can change if the site is sold and someone with different ideas comes in.

Hi, from first hand experience i can say that a lot more sites 'force' older statics off their sites for a couple of reasons, One is to keep 'their' site looking better and sell you a new van ie. you can stay on the site if your van is only xxx years old and you buy it from us. Another reason that sites exploit is older vans are now subject to new safety rules and regulations so they can throw them off and bring in a new van with a new contract to raise the fee's Thats why there are loads of older statics up for sale at the moment. It's easy to buy a still decent static, Just try to find a nice pitch for it...

Hi Rabb

I take your point. I think the first flush of enthusiasm has worn off  lol It would probably cause more probs that it solves. I can see them all wanting to bolt for Easter for example. But I have not entirely given up on the idea.

Cheers

Pete

Hi funky....Static sites for caravans are like gold dust, i know as we have been trying to find one for my parents for last 3 months, we have managed to find one but its a very basic one..it was case of  take it as there was nothing else, my parents have had large static vans for years, and when the time is up  for your van (age wise) then the owners want you off like grease lighteneing so they can put brand new van in its place,,,i know this as my parents have had to come off their site  when the van was 12 yr old....of course the owner said they could buy BRAND NEW VAN and stay!!!   there was nothing wrong with the van its just the owners dictate the rules n regs and like their sites to look all pretty and new, the one where my parents had their van even wouldnt allow the tables n chairs to be left outside on the varanders they had to be put inside the van when they left...( think he makes the rules up when theres nothing to watch on tv) think you had to ask his permission to break wind!!!!    so they now have large tourer and have been very lucky finding a site, and were just going to site it for them next week,,,,dont want to be a kill joy but wouldnt get your hopes up too much ....but good luck

I think Redtuts has got it right. You can end up with all sorts of problems with a static.  Hve you ever considered putting your tourer on a seasonal pitch ? it makes it so much easier to move if you need to. I've had a tourer on a seasonal pitch for 6 years now, have had to move 3 times through no fault of my own but I was so glad it was a tourer rather than a static I had to move. Might be worth thinking about

I was just going to suggest a tourer on a seasonal pitch.  Or at least, put your 'van in storage on a site where they will tow it on and off a pitch for when your family want to use it, but you can just hitch up and go when you want to use it. An awning with bedrooms can take care of childrens' bed space, should you have lots of grand-children.
