We are currently on the Derwentwater C&CC site and when we arrived we were surprised to see that the 8 glamping tents, that have been here for the last several years, have gone and been replaced by more pitches. I was under the impression, based on the way the CMC are busy installing glamping units on many of their sites, that this was what people wanted, so I find it interesting that the C&CC have removed them from Derwentwater.

I can only assume it's supply and demand.
If they were not that popular and turning a good profit for the work involved in running them then it would make sense to remove them.

Looking to book CAMC site at Borrowdale for week after next, been holding off booking hoping weather forecast would look better, or at least not get even worse, but they seem to have vacancies galore with only a couple of w/e days full mid month, has the UK camping bubble burst as many forecast, and people returning to foreign holidays - I do hope so, be nice to get back to how camping used to be pre-Covid crowds!

I think they have removed them from all of their sites.
Had gone from Barnard Castle when we were there a couple of months ago.

Not surprised, and it would be interesting if Devizes C&CC still have theirs when I go there later this year to say hi and bye to the New Companions Camping Club.

All very well to have a ready tent so that one does not have to have one's own gears and spends time and effort to set up.

However, the novelty soon wears off when one still has to walk to the facilities block at night and in bad weather etc., after paying all that money for a ready tent!

All IMHO.

As has been said I think they have removed tents from all sites. Neither Club are usually forthcoming in telling us why they do things so you can either conclude they were not very popular or they have come to the end of their useful life? On a couple of their sites they have static accommodation which remains. As someone who has recently stopped touring but might like the occasional stay on a campsite I wouldn't be using a tent!

No, I’m proof that it’s not burst. Some People (like me on this particular trip) are leaving it much more last minute. I had no trouble booking into a CAMC site less than a week before arriving, when we arrived the Site Full sign was up. When I’d been making that booking, I wasn’t sure what direction we’d go in next so I did a few “dummy” bookings to check. But come the time to decide, much closer to moving, a previously available CAMC site was full. So we’re on an independent site instead.
The problem has got different since Covid: more people with campervans & MHs aren’t using sites, they’re staying in “car” parks for free, using apps & many FB pages to find them. We were on a cracking site last week, only about half full, within sight of 2 car parks rammed so full of overnighters (and several parked for the summer by the beach) that some couldn’t open the Habitation door. If they’d come onto our site, the site would have been nearly full. Talking to a local person, he said the signs saying “no overnight parking” or “no Motorhomes” just get removed. No toilets nearby.

I wonder if this is why the Derwentwater site has installed a keypad entry system for the toilet block. This is the first year they have had this and I noticed a lot of campervans parked up on the road outside the site.

Interesting about C&CC sites and Glamping, as we visited the C&CC site at Sandringham recently and I don't remember seeing the Glamping pods that were there last time we visited. I thought I just didn't notice them, but maybe they really had gone.

Interesting.

Salisbury C&CC got rid of their locks in the shower blocks this year.

There is not much parking near the site.

However, there is a low risk of people on foot getting into the site and use the facilities for free, e.g. cyclists and walkers etc.. Perhaps the risk level is considered as acceptable now that they have an automated barrier installed.

yeh , visited Mablethorpe earlier this year and their 3 tents had gone , warden said they were no longer viable, and club were removing them all. site was left with 3 patches of soil, with campervans placed in between them, must have cost the club a small fortune to install them and the decking, and furnish them, only to be paid for by us members

Clent Hills site has removed them. Patches of soil next to hardstanding now.
I expect they will reseed them and use as normal pitches.

Just taken a look at the C&CC website and found this.

Unfortunately, our Ready Camp safari tents are no longer in operation. However, we invite you to explore our fantastic alternative glamping options listed below, or take a look at our selection of self-catering lodges.

So it seems they have done away with the Ready Camp tents right across the board. Maybe they were too expensive and bookings were consequentially too low to make them viable?
