Was wondering if there is anyone on youtube ect that reviews campsites for camping with a tent. We are just getting back into tenting after a 10 year break, we are a mature couple and would like more info on sites. Found reviews from caravaners but none from tent camping, like video reviews so can judge distance to and from shower blocks ect. Thanks for any info.

Sounds like you need to start one yourself!

Website photos should give you an idea of the distance to/from facilities (or use google earth...) whilst for reviews, try on here (no brainer) and google etc. I always do a bit of 'triangulation' raading a selection from different review/information sites to gain a hopefully unbiased view.

Thanks, I do wish we could get more videos from a tenters perspective, I might just have to start posting videos of our camping trips, mind you I would have to edit a lot of bleep sounds in from when we are setting up.

Caravans tethered to EHU fixed pitches, so if you intend using EHU then use the caravan reviews as you will be on the caravan pitches.   In a tent not tethered to a electric cable then the field is that way and you decide if you go to the far corner or near the loos. Wind also plays a part caravans rows orienteered same width apart facing forward, Tents bum to the wind all shapes and sizes all pitched to best advantage. A video of a tent field will never be repeated. Next week different tents different numbers, sizes, shapes, wind from different direction. So untethered tent camping, a google map satellite view will give you the field and facilities. Either way go enjoy and do it again.

I tend to use the reviews as a point of reference. This site, google reviews & Tripadvisor will all have reviews from campers, and they tend to have photos that help.
Google maps is a handy reference also, you can generally get an idea of the site from the satellite view.

As already mentioned by the others, requirements by tenters are likely to be different to those in a campervan/motorhome/caravan.

Before I switched unit to a MH, I would often find myself being in a tent with EHU amongst vans.

And yes to non-EHU grass pitches being further away from the facilities blocks in general.

A lot of sites have a site plan showing the layout of the site, usually not to scale. One could try and request for specific pitches or make a general request to be placed near the facilities block, subject to availability.

Salisbury C&CC's site had always asked me where I would like to pitch on arrival ever since I started to go there about 15 years ago.

And no to YouTube channel for video reviews of campsites that I know of. However, I have seen videos of campsites as part of the sites' websites.

Not all sites have caravan pitches like that, in fact we try and avoid those that are. We like to set up our caravan any way round we like and those are the sites we try and go for, and we do use EHU. We started off with a tent, but haven't used it since we first bought a caravan nearly 50 years ago.

I too would prefer I could pitch my van which way I like as I would prefer for the habitation door on the left of the van to face north rather than south (yes I know I am weird).

As I have discovered I can't do that with some sites being very regimental about how the van should be pitched, I bought an additional sun shade to fit onto my wind-out awning to provide additional shade when necessary.

Most sites have photos on their website and often a plan of the site as well.

You can choose a nice site and phone them to discuss where you would like to be and mention any mobility problems etc. for getting to the shower/toilet.

Sites will be very helpful although difficult at this time of year as it's the silly season when most of us older folks stay well away.

You will find older campers will be extremely welcome on sites outside the school holidays as the sites will be virtually empty.

You can take a toilet tent and porta-potti for daytime use and bring the loo into the tent at night.

The reviews of sites here on UKCS show whether they’re from people in a tent, caravan, whatever - when we post a review, we have to say what we’re camping with.
So go to site X and only check reviews from tent users. If you want photos, go to Google. YouTubers post reviews to make money, and there aren’t nearly as many as you’ll find on here. Your choice, obviously.

None for the UK.
For Spain and France there is Camping street view but they haven't posted on YT for 6 years. Maybe a regular UK campsite user could start up a channel doing so.

Also have a look at the section on here 'trip reports and photos' where you might find some inspiration.

And don't entirely disregard reviews on here from say campervans. We had a van with no toilet for 11 years so my reviews reflect this.

A caravan resolves all the issues. The older we get the more home comforts become more appealing. Just enjoy.

Yes I quite agree. I used to love tent camping when I was young but I don't think I could face it now. We haven't even used our awning lately because of all the effort involved in erecting it and pegging it out.

Not weird. However, I prefer for the habitation door on the left side to face west! (ie MH nose faces north) as I like to sit in the evening sun. And I’ll sometimes dowse for electricity cables running under the pitch as I don’t sleep well directly over them. (As you say: yes I know I’m weird).
