*** Admin - I have already submitted a site review! ***
Came home 2 days earlier than planned, partly due to the not so pleasant weather; however, the main reason was because I got very frustrated with their patchy and unreliable WiFi coverage when there was no mobile phone signal for EE (mobile phone) and Smarty (MiFi in my van)!
A WiFi voucher was provide free of charge for the first device, and I paid extra for a second device.
It was patchy the first night, so I popped into the site office with the intention to move to another pitch as the site was not that busy.
However, the helpful staff suggested to try again after they rebooted the system as my pitch should have good WiFi coverage.
It did improve that day and it was OK on Wednesday. However, I struggled to stay connected to the internet on Thursday when I had a Zoom work call without the video; and the WiFi kept dropping off throughout the day when it was chucking down outside!
I got so fed up I decided to come home earlier by 2 days. I originally planned to come back a day earlier. However, not having a stable internet connection on Thursday drove me nuts!
My line of work requires me to be continuously contactable, and I normally have some work to do as well as non-work meetings to attend.
I am not one who can go away and forget it all. It has never happen and I doubt if I could change that.
Apparently, Vodafone is the only good network at that site according to the helpful staff.
Even the staff commented that their site is not really suitable for work purposes due to poor mobile phone signal and patchy WiFi.
I learnt my lesson not to rely on site WiFi unless I know the site well enough to know the pitches with good reception.
I shall definitely be more diligent when I recce new sites and do not rely on site WiFi!!! If the results from Ofcom Signal Checker are not favourable, then I shall think twice before booking!
I had been there before some years ago when I was a tenter and liked it. I remember it well that mobile phone signal coverage was dire. I decided to chance it when CAMC Hurn Lane cancelled my booking at very short notice, thinking the advancement in technology would enable to stay connected to the internet via site WiFi, DOH!!!
I have ordered a free Vodafone PAYG SIM in case I need a third network, and shall take my old phone with me.
Can't get an O2 PAYG SIM without taking out a plan, so that is a no go.
When I first got my van, I did take out PAYG contracts so that I had access to all 4 networks. However, I let go of the Vodafone and O2 PAYG SIMs as I had not needed to use them, hey ho!
Rant over, thanks for reading!

Think I'm with Dave on this one as I too am an oldie who has lived most of my life without the internet or mobile phones. I too have never had a job where it was possible to work from home, all of my jobs have had me travelling around all over the place. I have been a coach driver, a train driver, and finished up as a mobile service engineer. Never in one place very long.
Unfortunately though, companies seem to be making it more and more difficult to live a life without a phone, and I still don't have a smart-phone. Even mundane things like paying for a car park seem to need a phone these days. I am all for new technology, but why can it not be used as an alternative to, rather than a replacement for, what has worked well for years?
My take on advancement in technology is that they can replace actual human employees in some cases.
Banking is a good example - the number of banks and building societies with a branch in my home town has dwindled since I moved there in 2006.
I shall be the treasurer of my service charity club at club and district levels soon, with 2 bank accounts at different banks. One of them still has a branch in town, the other does not.
Thank goodness for the local Post Office as they can handle most transactions and opens for longer and at weekends!
Customer Services (CS) is another example. CS call centres and their employees can be based anywhere in the world instead of physical locations which can be very expensive to hire etc..
