A friend of mine has had to change a booking for 13 days ahead due to a hospital appointment.
He has had to change from 6 nights to four nights. He has been charged £6.52 for the amendment.. it is a CAMC club site.
I have never heard of this charge has anyone else?

From my understanding, NOT experience, CAMC have introduced new charges along with the deposit system.
So called "Admin" charges for changing bookings at shortish notice being 1 of them.

Its because its within the 21 days of arrival. I think what has happened is that he has lost a small proportion of his deposit on the cancelled days. Had it been a commercial site where by now he would have paid in full with not a hope in hell of getting any money back in my experience so the CMC is far better than most.

I’ve been to a number of small independent sites that have allowed our cancelled booked nights to be taken later that year. No refund, but the nights were not lost. I think small independents have a flexibility & autonomy that big commercial sites might not have.
Otherwise, the CAMC deposit aspect sounds likely. Frustrating though.

2024 = 18 sites / 38 nights. 2023 = 9/23. 2022 = 13/35. 2021 = 11/29. 2020 = 4/20. 2019 = 13/35. 2018 = 20/33. 2017 = 10/22. 2016 = 19/33. 2015 = 15 sites / 27 nights. Didn't count 1976 to 2014.

We have had similar and had to cancel or amend booking within the 21 days and no charge so this must be a new money grabbing exercise? On all the commercial sites we have use din the past several years were never charged an amendment fee and were able to move the deposit to a later date.

When anyone books a CMC they should be aware of the T&C's, which by and large are still far more generous than the equivalent commercial sites. Before arrival on site you will, at a maximum, only lose the deposit which is now only 10% of the total site fee if you cancel or make changes within 21 days of arrival on site. This is more generous than the C&CC and far more generous than most major commercial sites. Can't speak for small sites as I have little knowledge and they are really not in the same ball park as the CMC. In the last two seasons I have lost about £400 having booked well known commercial sites and had to cancel through ill health within days of my arrival on site. OK I have to accept that as I agreed the the T&C's but it still leaves a nasty taste in the mouth. If the same thing happens on a CMC site I stand to loose £20/30, no brainer really. Just as an aside, neither of the two site where I lost money have attempted to contact me asking if I would like to stay with them where sites I have successfully stayed at often contact me with up to date information.

David

Maybe you should have booked with reputable commercial sites? LOL!

It's all pretty clearly laid out in the Club T and Cs of booking, that entire cancellation or shortening of booking will incur charges if done within 21 days of arrival date.

Shortening of stay fee is done pro-rata on days cancelled on original deposit due for stay.

I'm not a huge fan of restrictive booking terms, but the Club's terms don't seem unreasonable to me, certainly a reasonable attempt to put a stop to the mass abuse of bookings that went before, whereby bookings were made with no intention of showing up, thereby blocking others from booking, then the original bookers were 'no show's and went penalty free! That practice caught me a few times where I couldn't book in advance, as showing fully booked, but come the day there were loads of vacancies!

It's not a particularly new condition, in similar form it must have been in place for a couple of years now.
