I’ve been looking at sites open for Christmas or the new year. Lots are full if they are open .
I wouldn’t book until quite late due to the weather . I don’t want to lose a deposit if we couldn’t go .
What do you do over new year if you are away ?? I was thinking it might be nice . But lots of places of interest are closed .

I can’t see your approximate location on the app version of UKCS. I can think of sites open & probably with availability, but no point suggesting them if you need “3 hours from Essex”.
My location is Shrewsbury so I look all around at approx 2 hours drive may be less or slightly more .
I use the Malvern area a lot .
We used to live in south wales and used the Cotswolds a lot as wrll. I tend to use CMC or C&CC sites . Three came up with space for new year . Kingsbury. Conkers . And Oxford . I have been to Kingsbury in the spring . In the winter I don’t want to be too remote .

We are staying at the Derwentwater C&C Club site in the centre of Keswick for 10 nights over Christmas and New Year. It's not cheap but it's our Xmas present also there's plenty of low walking, pubs, eateries and shops plus we can always have a ride out on a rainy day 😉
------------- a tent, folding camper and 6 caravans later ... June
We used to go away to Moreton in Marsh for Christmas and it was worth the trip. Many caravans had displays outside their caravans and at night it was really nice to walk around the site. Even better if you have a sprinkling of snow making it look like a Charles Dickens type Christmas.
We went away every Christmas for the past 10 or more years, but sadly due to health issues now stay at home.

We are going away for a week at the CCC site at Derwentwater over Christmas. I booked it in February. (I also tried to book at a local restaurant for Christmas Day, but they emailed to say they are closed)
------------- We camped for years. In 2019 we bought an Elddis Avante 454. We like it as it is short (6.9m) and fits in our driveway and has a fixed bed.
We had 127 nights away in the caravan in 2023.
I had an email from Premier Parks the other day, they listed quite a bit of availability over Christmas and New Year. We usually go away for New Year for a rest after hosting everyone. We're off to a Morris site to make use of their 3 for 2 offer.

For us it is 130 miles, most of it is motorway so an easy journey.

Could be some very wet pitches in the Lakes. They had a foot of snow the other day!
They had a few inches of snow in the South Lakes but virtually none in the Northern Lakes. The foot of snow sensationalised by the news media was only in a few locations where it had drifted.
