We are hoping to go away next week and are considering using a site with metered electricity (Norcross CL near Kirkham). The site costs £20 a night, but we have no idea how much the electricity will be on top of that. At this time of year we will obviously be making full use of the Alde heating, water heater etc etc. and wouldn’t want to use gas instead of electric.
Does anyone have any experience of using metered electricity in winter and can give us a broad idea of how much per night it might cost?

Just stayed at 2, Eskdalegate Farm near Whitby a basic �15 and we ended up paying less than �20, so 4/5 per night, for 6 nights. Park Farm near Risley Derbyshire again 15 with ehu working out at 6 for 2 nights. So you will probably pay 25/26 per night. OH has just reminded me that we used gas quite a lot so may be more.

Just watched the video - a real eye-opener!
I think on balance we'll go to the CL a few miles away for £22 a night all-in, and save our first experience of metered electricity for warmer weather!

Budget for about £0.80p per kwh as the site will pay the commercial rate and not the domestic rate. Current domestic rate has been set at about £0.29 per kwh. So if you use about 8kwh per 24 hours that is reasonable.

"and wouldn’t want to use gas instead of electric" .............. why not?

A quick google has found the following statement

1 Litre of propane = 7.08 kWh (kilowatt hours)

Can anyone comment on the validity of this statement ?

nb, we have a safefill bottle and to fill it costs 79p/litre.

Does this mean for heating and fridge use it is only costing me the equivalent of circa 10p per kwh ?

(I am also under the impression the new modern fridges consume about 4 kwh/day and that is where a lot of cost goes on metered EHU)

Because we use Calor gas and it's not cheap or always easy to find, so would prefer to use electricity included in the pitch fee or metered electricity if it would cost less than gas.
If we had Safefill gas, it would probably be different.
